and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose was surprised by Archelaus' honesty. She'd been expecting a bit of hedging or aversion, but he barely blinked. This suggested he was used to conversing with intergalactic species, and meeting a human wasn't a shock to him at all.
"That's good to hear," Rose groaned, head still swimming. She felt as though she might be sick, and gently touched her temple as Archelaus undid her binds. "You know these Vopheiteran's then?" The Doctor hadn't told her an awful lot about this place; he generally preferred to go in blind and discover as they went along.
For the first time, something like amusement crossed the man's face. "Yeah, not the most graceful, me." Rose ran a hand through her hair and very slowly, began to stand. "Where are you from?" She asked, a little absentmindedly. She had to keep talking, keep her mind busy and distract herself from the painful bruises and unpleasant cut on her arm.
Her blood seemed to be clotting, which was a good sign, but it was still extremely painful and she winced as she attempted to stand, stumbling a little into her new friend.

❧ "To some extent," he said, "It depends what you want to know." He didn't live here, but the Master knew that he knew enough to be useful, particularly with what he was beginning to plan. The fact he had been helping the less fortunate members of this planet in a rebellion certainly offered him an insight that was less than superficial.
He straightened up once done. "Milia 1L73," he lied, choosing the most obscure planet that came to mind. He rather doubted it would matter what he said. For whatever traveling she might have done with the Doctor, space and time were large enough that it was unlikely she would know what planet he chose to name.
He eyed her, absently making to catch her as she stumbled towards him. "You don't look well," he noted, "I can bring you to someone who can help." Ignoring the fact that it would be good to get out of here as quickly as possible, chances were that it would be best to use her if he wanted to get to the Doctor.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose closed her eyes, willing her world to stop spinning. "Mmm, just give me the important bits," she mumbled. Any other time, she'd want to know as much as possible, but right now Rose couldn't focus on much else but the pain, and she very much doubted she'd remember much of these last few minutes anyway.
"Milia," she repeated, opening her eyes and peering up at him. She'd never heard of it, but that didn't mean much. The universe was a big place. As she stumbled Archelaus, he luckily caught her before Rose hit the ground and nodded in agreement. "I think you're right," she said, feeling sicker by the minute.
She assumed it was the loss of blood and the bang on the head making he feel woozy. Rose didn't have a lot of experience with first aid. If she'd been in her right mind, she might have wondered who Archelaus was, who he was bringing her to, and how he knew them. Instead, she blindly followed him, putting her life into the hands of her new friend. "Where are we going?" She asked after a few seconds, trying to keep her eyes focused.

❧ Perhaps a more empathetic creature would have not been surprised by the answer the Master had received. However, entirely alien, he could not help but feel some amount of disdain at the fact she would rather receive a short summary about another species. It struck him as entirely human, particularly since he was not entirely unaware that it likely came from a place of pain. How utterly fragile humans were, so quick to grumble and complain. Pain was no excuse.
"You have likely noticed most of what there is to say," he said with false patience, "Vopheitera is a small and subjectively beautiful planet. While relatively advanced, its people have incredibly backward laws, rather similar to the notion of taking a thief's hand for stealing a cabbage. People here are also expected to speak telepathically, making for anyone who relies more on verbal communication to effectively be looked down upon. Unsurprisingly, they have a lack of tourists and many outcasts."
It didn't entirely appear as though Rose recognized the name, but the Master was also beginning to realize that the human woman also appeared to be quite ill, something that might have been fudging what he was discerning. Whether that was true or not he'd likely learn later.
Carefully, he made to help her straighten, knowing well enough that she might not be able to walk on her. Annoying on its own, but useful in the long run as far as he was concerned. After all, she was less likely to question anything he was saying if he was more focused on how she was feeling. "A doctor outside the city," he said honestly.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose did her best to listen. She concentrated on Archelaus' voice, finding it a welcome distraction from the nausea and terrible jabs of pain. Was she coming out of shock? Somehow her injuries were hurting her more than they had a few minutes before. It was probably the movement. Once she'd had a rest, she'd feel better.
"Ah, now I understand why they looked so disgusted with me when I said hello," Rose grumbled. She couldn't help but feel disgruntled that The Doctor hadn't shared this vital piece of information with her. Though in truth, they'd been separated rather quickly and there'd been no time for his usual lessons. But still, he was careless sometimes. He forgot she didn't automatically know things he did.
But Rose could take care of herself. Or at least, she normally could. At the moment, Rose was pretty sure she'd be dead if it wasn't for the man next to her. He'd gone quiet, which made Rose glance sideways at him. He appeared deep in thought, and Rose wondered what he was thinking.
Doctor. The word triggered something inside her. Why hadn't Rose mentioned him before? "We need to find The Doctor," she told him. "My friend -- the one I'm travelling with, he'll need to know where I am. He'll be able to help us."

❧ "Indeed," he said. The Time Lord could understand the disgust to some extent. Generally, it was a sign of a lower species when confronted with someone who were incapable of psychic abilities on any level. However, he could admit that the Vopheiterans were a bit hypocritical about the entire thing. As a planet that did not receive many tourists, most of those they shamed were their own species, meaning their own species had not entirely adapted to such skills yet and were thus not nearly as advanced as they believed themselves to be. It showed, as far as he was concerned, in how they ran themselves.
The Master didn't particularly want to refuse going to the Doctor. However, he was well aware that giving away that he had knowledge about the individual she was travelling with might not come across well. The Doctor had more enemies than friends after all. "The Doctor?" he echoed, feigning confusion at the clear title instead of name, "How would he be able to help us?" Purposely, his gaze flickered to her wounds. "You're injured. It seems like it would be best to deal with that first. Then we can see your friend. You look quite ill after all."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose knew he was right. She was in no state to start roaming around a new land – a planet she didn’t know or understand, no less – in search for The Doctor. Besides, he was probably looking for her right now, right? Unless he was in trouble or trapped, but then he always found a way out. Maybe it was better if she stayed in one place, that way The Doctor would be able to track her down.
”You’re right,” she told him, leaning even more of her weight onto Archelaus. She didn’t mean to of course, but the more they walked, the less energy she had. ”The Doctor will find me. He wouldn’t just leave me.”
”I’m sorry, Archeulaus,” she mumbled weakly after a couple of minutes. ”You didn’t need to do all this… You could have left me back there…” Rose looked up at him and smiled. ”Thank you.”
She was seeing two of him, but she kept her eyes focused on where she believed the real Archelaus to be. Rose hadn’t felt this woozy in a long time – not since New Years Eve when she’d had one too many cocktails. She wondered how long it would be before she passed out completely, and added quietly, ”are we near?”

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Any sense of satisfaction of being right- because of course he was; he always was- was stamped out as quickly as it had come. The Master had never been particularly fond of the Doctor's penchant for taking on companions, particularly when they were human. The reason why tended to change between regenerations but there was undoubtedly a link to the fact that he tended to find them akin to toys and his first, genuine experience with one had only resulted in betrayal. Where did such blind trust come from? The Doctor wouldn't leave her. How absolutely naive. The Master knew better than anyone that the Doctor was perfectly capable of leaving those he cared for behind without a second thought.
He'd done it to him multiple times after all and it seemed it was only now that he cared.
An old anger rose up within him and he couldn't help but change his original train of thoughts. He'd only been thinking of using her as bait. However, there was the undeniable urge to see if the Doctor really would come, particularly if she was in a scenario that screamed of danger.
"I don't mind," he lied. He did mind. He would have loved nothing more than to leave her here. She was just a human after all, though he supposed she was partially right. "I want to help." After all, without helping her, his own plans could not blossom.
Carefully, he made to help her up before he would begin to walk in the direction, only relatively slowed down by Rose's presence but otherwise appearing to be entirely fine as if he'd never jumped out of cart and was entirely healthy. "Yes."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose was in far too much pain to notice to prolonged silence that came from her companion. The anger that radiated off him was palpable, and had she been in full health, she liked to think she would have sensed his change in demeanour. But perhaps lucky for Archelaus, and not so lucky for Rose, all her energies were going into staying awake until they reached this doctor, and so she noticed nothing at all.
"You are a good man," she told him faintly, before going quiet. Rose couldn't talk anymore. It was too much effort. She stared down at their feet, listening to the sound of their breathing, and the world around them. Everything was eerily quiet. "Not far now?" Rose asked him after a time.
"I can't... I can't go much further..."
A tiny part of her mind began to panic. It felt as though they'd been walking for a decade, and Rose could feel the world beginning to leave her. Her eyes were beginning to droop and she was losing sense of all time and direction. Was this the end? Was this how she was going to die? Lost on a world, a million lightyears from home, in the arms of a stranger?

❧ "Thank you," The Master said, no taking the compliment to heart. After all, Rose was complimenting a man who did not exist, just another façade he had created in a moment. He knew he was not a good man. He had been told countless times he was not, sometimes by people who others would not consider to be particularly good people other. Perhaps their words meant nothing- words normally did mean nothing- but the list of people who would probably take advantage of a moment to kill him did not.
He had no shame in this fact.
He focused on walking as Rose went silent. It was clear that the human's injuries were leaving her fairly weak and that was good as far as he was concerned as it worked in his favor. Moreover, he doubted that idle chatter was something she'd be interested in in her current state. "We're almost there," he said in reply as she spoke up. They'd walked long enough that he'd managed to get them out of the city; now it was merely a matter of finding the group he had created.
His gaze flickered to her as she spoke again, noticing that she seemed to be on the verge of unconsciousness. That wasn't good. He briefly considered whether to do anything about it. He doubted that she'd die, but the woman was human and thus decidedly fragile. Being too careless with her even before he let a doctor look at her probably wasn't a good idea.
After a moment's thought, he decided it best to do nothing except fasten his pace. Anything he could do would just reveal himself as a Time Lord and who knew how she'd react to such things in this state. Spotting the camp in the distance, he quickly began heading towards it.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose used every ounce of strength to concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other. Whether Archelaus was regretting his actions remained to be seen, but unless he wanted to leave her to die, he was stuck with her for now. It was something that was not lost on Rose, and she wondered faintly if this was it. Was she doing to die in the arms of a stranger, lightyears away from everyone she loved? Her home?
No. She couldn’t think like that. Like he said, it wasn’t far now…
They were far from the City now, but Rose thought she could see something flickering in the distance. Was that… Was that fire? A camp! At last! She exhaled in relief as the tent and came into view, barely caring that she was about to be treated by someone who had probably never seen a human before. Most worlds were so far ahead than humans, that it would make little difference.
They passed the campfire, and Rose felt a brilliant warmth as they walked past. She was leaning so much upon Archelaus now that he was practically dragging her, and she could feel her last bit of energy leave her. Turning groggily to her companion, she mumbled something along the lines of ”I need to sleep now,” and passed out in his arms, her head lolling upon his shoulder. 231 words • The Master • sorry this is so late lovely <333

❧ The sign of fire gave away the camp and the Master made sure to follow in the direction if it. Despite his plans, he would have to at least follow through part of what he had told Rose. After all, it would be pointless if she were to die in his arms or soon after. His plan would hardly work if the woman were to end up dead. He had to have some proof that she was at least breathing. There was just the matter of how to keep her in place. She was human so he had no doubt that it wouldn't be too hard.
Passing by the campfire, he would begin to seek out the doctor he had mentioned. What would likely escape Rose's notice was that the Time Lord was treated with a fair amount of respect, something he had not mentioned previously. His gave briefly turned to her as she mentioned needing sleep. This time, the smile that crossed his face would not look nearly as sincere or charming as if failed to reach his eyes.
As she passed out, he continued on his way, eventually making his way to a traveler who had once been a doctor. Explaining what was wrong with Rose, he would hand her off to the doctor to heal. Now, he just had to put in the beginnings of his plan- to make sure that once Rose woke up she would not be going anywhere.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet What happened next was all a blur to Rose. There were flashes of movement, moments of clarity, but then she would pass out completely and everything went dark. The next thing she knew, she was being bandaged up by a doctor. Still groggy, she lifted her head in confusion.
”Where am I?” She mumbled, raising a hand to her temple and realising that had been bandaged too. Oh, wait. She remembered now. She'd got separated from The Doctor, hadn't she? She'd hurt herself jumping out of that thing, and now, here she was.
”Doctor?” It wasn’t her doctor, but it was a doctor. How had he come to be here? And where was Archelaus. ”Archelaus?” She asked, looking around. ”Where is my friend?” She asked the doctor, wondering if he understood. He knew a human body at least, and how it worked. Was this doctor human? Rose wasn’t sure. She wasn’t sure of anything at the moment.
”Thank you for helping me,” she told him. ”I… I need to find my friends.” Archelaus, or The Doctor. Mainly The Doctor. It wouldn’t surprise her if Archelaus had dumped her, she’d been nothing but an extra problem since they’d jumped out. Attempting to stand, Rose found she was still unsteady on her feet. She raised her hand to her head again. How was she going to get out of here?

❧ Whether surprisingly or not, the doctor appeared to understand Rose, something which was unknowingly due not to the alien knowing English but the effect of the presence of a TARDIS. Turning to her as she spoke, the doctor attempted to make a calming motion. "You're safe," he said.
Confusion crossed his face at what she said next. "Doctor? I am a doctor, yes," he said slowly, clearly beginning to wonder if the woman was a bit more injured than he had thought, "Archelaus?" That was not a name he recognized, something that was abundantly clear by his tone. However, the confusion appeared to be brief as clarity crossed his face. "Oh! Stay here," he gently ordered trying to encourage her to sit, "I will tell him that you are awake." Giving her little time to argue, he spoke to someone who seemed to be an assistant before rushing off to presumably find "Archelaus."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The doctor seemed to understand Rose’s words as she came around, and made a calming motion in her direction, which wasn’t all that surprising. But it did give her a glimmer of hope. The TARDIS was still around, and it was still translating languages in her head. That meant The Doctor was still here. However, he didn’t seem to understand who she meant by Doctor, which meant the Time Lord hadn’t come this way. But he couldn’t be far, right?
Rose raised her hand to her head, still feeling groggy, but a lot better than she had previously. At least she could see straight now, and she didn’t feel as though she was about to pass out at any moment. Whether she could stand was another matter, so instead she’d concentrate sitting up and regaining her strength.
To her relief, Archelaus was still here and the doctor headed off to fetch him. It was sweet of him to wait for her. He hadn’t appeared to be the friendliest guy in the world, but he had saved her life and was a good enough man to keep her safe, which many wouldn’t. Straightening up, she looked toward the door, preparing herself to thank him for all that he had done so far.
