2000s | Biromantic Demisexual | Timelord | Sarcastic | Secretive |
friends, The Master has never been someone who makes friends easily and this has not changed with his current incarnation. The eigteenth incarnation is an individual who often comes across as cold and, unlike many of his previous incarnations, rarely sees a reason to make a spectacal of himself. Worse, he is not a particularly kind person, offten seeing himself above others, a trait that naturally leads him to be disinclined to make many genuine friends. In regards to those he may have once known due to a previous incarnation, the Master has long since tarnished many of his past relationships, whether one is speaking about friends, family, or even classmates. It appears that the older he becomes the less he cares about what his species thinks about him. This current incarnation currently loathes nearly all of them. I do not imagine that it is unlikely the Master will approach others in a friendly manner. However, the majority of the time it is likely he will desire something out of these interactions. In this incarnation, it is more likely that he will act in such a manner if he desires something or is manipulating others. Otherwise, he is more likely to act cold and sarcastic. enemies, Honestly, this is too long a list to actually begin naming people. The Master seems to have pissed off a good portion of the universe, his own species included. Chances are most people who have heard his name probably have not heard it for the right reasons. Outside of this, the Master is meant to be quite xenophobic. While it is meant to have gotten a bit better in his incarnation, it is meant to still be clear he holds disdain for humans and daleks, the latter of which is a bit more justifiable. This incarnation, unlike any of his previous ones, seems to hold a deep-rooted loathing for the majority of his own species as well. Chances are the Master is likely to make more enemies in the future since, despite having become less insane and as cruel as his previous incarnation, the Master is still, at his core, a fairly ambitious and cruel individual. romances, Love has always been a bit complicated for the Master, something which is inevitably for an individual who is capable of changing so easily. Having only been married at least twice in his entire life span- one of which others may argue was entirely one-sided- he has never been someone who enters serious relationships easily. And it is unsurprising as to why as the Master has always seemed to be entirely focused more on his friendship with the Doctor, one which eventually turned into obsession. Currently, the Master identifies as biromantic demisexual. For better or worse, chances are that anyone desiring to enter any sort of relationship with him will likely have some type of trouble doing so as the Master has a bad habit of dismissing people he deems to not be his equal (or at least close to them). Moreover, he can be quite xenophobic. Though, it isn't impossible for him to enter one, particularly if he thinks there may be use in doing so. I would be happy to play around with this! the fourth doctor & The Master --
Hey Momo! I've been simmering on this for a while, but I wanted to talk to sarah jane smith about it first, since I want her involved in whatever plot we all come up with. I would love for Four and the Master to meet, to encounter each other and for it stir all sorts of angst.
If you're up for it, maybe Four and Sarah could be separated somehow, and Sarah could be taken by the Master -- I was thinking along the lines of his Roger Delgado incarnation doing this, since the Fourth Doctor had run into him before in his previous face and this version seems the most likely to pull a "kidnapping". It also would fall in-line with the time-line and later sequence of events, since when Four meets the Master on Gallifrey after Sarah's departure, he has already regenerated into the "Peter Pratt" face -- and seems too desperate/dying to want to pull such a silly stunt at that point in his "final" incarnation.
Long story short, The Master wants revenge on the Doctor for meddling in his past plans, and sets a trap for him and his most recent companion so that he can kidnap her. Maybe he needs her for something? Or, perhaps, he could even hypnotise Sarah into helping him to lure the Doctor to him/to his death?
Just a pitch. Let me know what you think!

I really like this idea! I think I like the idea of the Master hypnotizing Sarah in order to lure the Doctor to him, potentially to his death (that strikes me as something more along the lines of what the Delgado!Master might have done).

Hi friends! I love all of this. I'm in!
I feel like the best thing I could do now is try to contribute some questions. On Earth or off Earth? And for either, we'd need to choose a time period/ technology level. I'm thinking on Earth if only so that the Master doesn't stand out too much. I'm also interested in a steam-punk feel. However, my preferences are light ones, and I'm completely flexible, and I think it makes more sense for you two to choose.
I'm also absolutely game to just dive in head first if we just want to 'wing it'.
Thanks for this!

I wrote a little post above, but since then I've been trying to think up plot to toss into the hat. I've got no ego in this, so I don't mind if we don't use any of it.
It has some holes in it still.
1. Human (ish?) planet. Inhabited. Wild wild tilt on the Axis so that every shift of climate (every half 'year') the entire population migrates from one hemisphere to the other. Away from freezing bitter cold to lovely tropical.
2. They do this by using a corridor they think of as Magic, but it is actually left over technology from an earlier age. Something like a transmat. It is now broken, and people are starting to freeze. The Doctor can hold it open if he works furiously, but he cannot leave the side of the machine as the (thousands? of) people pour through.
3. The Master has set all this up in the distant past as a trap for the Doctor.
4. There is actually a replacement piece for the important component, held in holy esteem and a thing of Lore. Because of the Master's set up from the Past, by tradition only someone like Sarah Jane can go fetch this new component. Something as simple as she sort of resembles a figure from the planet's religious texts (set up by the Master). I drawn picture, or even just a hair color. IE, on the planet all women are blonde, and all men have dark hair. Or it could be more complex like a sword-in-a-stone sort of thing.
5. She agrees to go for this hour hike or however they get there. Somewhere along the way the Master nabs her, while the Doctor waits on her return.
The last bit is that perhaps the Master could be playing the Holy Father of The Religion, so he's got his hand in almost as soon as SJ and 4 arrive.
So . . .there are some DNA of an idea, for expansion, mutation, or deletion.

I really like the expanded plot mentioned! I imagined that, due to the nature of the planet, a steampunk feel could potentially be added to it. Since they believe lost technology from a more advanced past is "magic," perhaps the current technology on it could be quite poor in comparison since it might be common for people to scavenge but not understand what they are messing with. I do like the idea of the Masterbeing well ingrained at the top of the religion. Strikes me as something he'd do to make sure things go smoothly.

Thanks! I'm glad my idea flies well. I like your take on the technology. When I thought up 'steam punk' it was prior to the rest of the plot coming to mind. If they had steel technology, I think that it would be too easy for them to find a new way to the warm climate. Unless it's technology they had, and is now lost to them. However, I like the idea of their past technology feeling like 'magic' instead. I'm open to either, but it might work better if currently their tech level is around log cabin/wagon wheel/ mystical religious ceremony sort of stuff.
Addition : Perhaps the Master is the one responsible for them having lost the tech they had before so he could sculpt the society the way he wants to help get them into their current mess.

sarah jane smith & The Master --
I love the idea, too! Fitting for the Master to be the central "Holy Figure" of this planet, and getting rid of prior technology so he could mold it the way he wants. When the Doctor and Sarah arrive, it's all wrong, but the Doctor isn't quite sure what is "off" about it. I imagine the Doctor would try and go fetch the component until one of the locals pipe up and tell him that it has to be Sarah because it was foretold that something like this would happen, and that a "fair maiden with hair like wood" would be the one to find the "lost star" and be the "liberator of death and disease". Of course, Sarah reassures the Doctor she'll be okay and he sends someone with her that he feels is trustworthy (maybe the first person they met upon arrival?), while he stays behind and tries to figure out why everything is so primitive. I also imagine him arguing with the inhabitants, too, and trying to tell them that their "magic" is actually "science", lol.
I originally imagined this planet being stuck in something similar to the era of the Middle Ages, since they are all about "magic" and "curses" and stuff. That would sort of explain the religious necessity and how they don't tend to question the Master's methods or anything. But, since it is another planet, it could just as easily be a more early 1600's sort of setting with log cabins and wagons and things like that, with the advanced tech they see as "magic". Admittedly, it's hard for me to interlock the steampunk element in for either setting because, like Sarah said, I think it would give them a reason to not use the teleport, unless we interject it as part of the "old tech" they lost.
Aside from the culture of the planet, I think we have mostly everything figured out, it seems. I'm just not sure how the Doctor will figure it all out, but I'm sure it'll happen somehow.

Hm, in that case, I much prefer the idea of their past technology being like "magic." I will say that I do like the idea of the Master is to blame for why they lost their technology. In fact, it meshes quite well with how I imagine he'd fit into such a role. If he did so, I can see him rising up as a "Holy Father" without the use of hypnosis but more through his nature charm. More importantly, he could have the title because the people view him as knowledgeable.

I absolutely agree. I imagine the Master being deeply enmeshed in this culture's past, becoming important via charm as opposed to hypnotism. Perhaps pretending to be different 'priests' throughout the people's history to keep power. (perhaps he wears a mask?) I think SJ would be the only one he's got to hypnotize. I'm happy to plot further, coming up with names of things and the like. If we're set though, I'd like to suggest the order as
Master, Sarah Jane Doctor
Though of course we could start anywhere in the line up. Who is game to do the starter?
oH, and PS. I think it would make sense for the Doctor and SJ to have a bit of a crash landing, or at least an unexpected one, perhaps in some way precipitated by something the Master did.
Wheee! this is fun!

1. I know I'm replying to my own reply, but I got excited thinking about titles. Love a good title. I don't care what it ends up being, but I wanted to toss some ideas into the hat.
"The Crystal of Tagrotq" (that is a made up planet/people word. Stick anything in that slot)
"The Lost Migration"
"The Twisted Planet"
"Soul Trap"
2. As I've considered where much of the adventure will be happening, I'd rather that the People were fleeing from the blazing sun, rather than the cold. The fashionista in me doesn't want SJ running around the whole time in some huge shapeless parka. I mean, to be life saving while people are struggling to survive, it would have to be a damn big parka, a giant hood, and some very ugly boots. So! I suggest it's getting too hot, and they need to migrate to the hemisphere where it's Absolutely Perfect for the next half year.
However, I am open if you want to do it the other way around.
3. Every adventure needs a burning fuse. Time pressure. I suggest that People are not yet desperate to survive the sun, it's just getting very uncomfortable. The reason they need to hurry is because there are SO Many People to get through the transmat that if they don't start soon, the last thousand or so are going to fry before they can be sent through because of how long it would take.
No need to adopt this either.
Gosh, I do go on. Thanks for reading

Ooo, I definitely like the idea of him pretending to be different "High Priests." This sounds like the sort of plan that would have possibly gone over a fair amount of time (at least for him). I do like the idea of him wearing a mask since that seems very in line with this specific incarnation of the Master. I would be fine with that order so long as the fourth doctor is. As for the other stuff, I don't mind having it changed to the blazing hot. I don't see that changing too much outside of the effects that technology is having? The third also sounds good to me; sort of sounds like a natural progression to two. Also just my opinion, but that personally sounds like a good way for the Doctor to figure out about everything?

Sounds like a plan. The Dreamy Doctor agrees.
I'm going to call it "Twisted Planet", and do the opening post.

Regarding "The Twisted Planet" My first instinct is to write through the TARDIS door opens and SJ sees where they are, in particular for the pacing, and to establish the look of the weather/landscape. My second instinct is to have the doors open to a 'welcoming committee" of sorts, as their arrival has been foretold. The Third thought is that I might be taking it way too far. Momo, if you want more time to set up on your end, I'll stop Sarah Jane before she opens those doors. I don't want to rush you, or assume too much about the Master's plan. And, of course, Dreamy, I don't want to rush you either. I just also don't want to slack and slow things. Oh! I'm all a twitter. This is fun. Thoughts? the fourth doctor The Master
