"Florana!"
His exclamation was not without vigor as he skipped around their new console, the look of excitement and adventure in his eyes and blood bustling through his veins. He could feel it -- all the adrenaline -- as he turned knobs and pulled levers, all the while circling the island of his new ship. In his new body. Well! Human body, actually.
"The planet of flowers," he clarified, beginning to go into detail about the place they had just landed. He grabbed his black trench coat, and began sliding his arm through. "It's beautiful! Has every flower ever grown, every flower ever created in the known universe," His expression turned incredulous, as if he could barely believe it himself. He slid another arm through, and popped the collar. "Spring temperatures. All the time. So, you don't have to worry about freezing your bunions off. They pollinate themselves, smell brilliant, are empathetic, and --here's the best part." He ran down the walkway towards the door, stopping suddenly with his hand on the handle, only to turn to her with raised brows and an impish smile that could melt moons.
"The planet has never had any sentient form of life on it. Ever." His voice lowered in the anticipation with the thrill of knowing what they were about to do. "No humans. No animals. We are the first people to ever land on the planet of flowers. Isn't that brilliant?" His smile broadened, and his spirit of adventure deepened with a nagging need to go on. It was the first time he had ever been here. First time he and Rose had ever traveled in their home-grown TARDIS. The first time he would be seeing a planet -- first time seeing it with these new eyes.
He lingered on the door for just a moment longer, staring at his blonde companion, and knowing that she was just as eager as he was to get out there. Still. He had to prolong the moment. He had to make sure. It had been a while. "Ready?"

Rose laughed, watching The Doctor jump around The TARDIS console like a jack-in-a-box and absentmindedly following him around it. She felt elated, nervous and a little bit sad all at the same time. This was their first ever destination in their new, fully grown TARDIS. It was a moment to remember, something that would underline this new era. Their relationship. He was the same man, and Rose knew that. But seeing him in his element, jumping around and talking a hundred miles an hour reminded Rose so much of the past, so much of The Doctor she'd travelled with back home, that sometimes it was impossible not to feel that little bit of sadness. But she needed to focus on the now, and the gift that was the man in front of her. That's what The Doctor had given her. A real chance for them to be together, and Rose wasn't about to waste it.
She wondered how The Doctor felt, if being half human had changed this experience at all. Did it heighten the sensations? The fear, the thrill? Rose's eyes lit up in interest as The Doctor began to explain. She beamed at him and swung on the edge of the railing, enjoying the chance just to look at him without interruption. Despite everything, Rose loved seeing him happy.
"We're the first?" Rose asked, voice hushed and excitement. The Doctor's hand was on the handle and there was a look in his eye that said he was waiting. Waiting for Rose. He wanted to do this right, and Rose loved him all the more for it. She did a funny little skip and came close to him, taking his other hand in her own. "Ready," she replied.
Then, taking a deep breath, she followed The Doctor outside.
Rose let out a gasp as the glorious smell of every type of flower under the sun filled her nostrils. A wonderful, pleasant breeze flew around her face and flowed through her long blonde hair. She raised a hand over her eyes and took in the view, her eyes very bright. "This... This is-" Rose was speechless. "Wow," she breathed.

He swayed slightly in excitement, shifting to the left and the right with a smile playing on his lips. A mixture of light and relief and love reached his brown eyes when she took his hand. He squeezed hers in return. He was happy she wanted to come. That she was ready. That she had faith in him -- in their new adventure. In this new life they were suddenly embarking on. It gave him reassurance. It gave him hope. "Alright," he concluded with a foolish grin, "Allons-y!!"
He stepped out of their new purple-tinted TARDIS, his eyes scrutinizing under the radiance planet's two suns as he took it all in. Different flowers, spanning across miles and miles and miles, as far as the eye could see, covered the ground, ranging from all different types, colors, and sizes. The sky was clear, blue. Beautiful. "Reminds me of our first date," he mused with a quick sniff. "Well! Our first date on the New New Earth with the New New me, of course." he corrected. He glanced over at her with a glint in his eye, a sigh, and a small smile. "'Guess it's New New New Doctor now." He could feel the wind coming, and his squinted gaze shifted forward again. A slight breeze rushed against his black trench-coat, ruffling his styled mess of hair, and he was relishing in the feel of it against his face. But, when it had dissipated and his eyes re-opened, they settled onto something on the ground curiously.
"That's strange," he muttered, letting go of Rose's hand to take a few steps away and crouch down next to the inquisitive space. He reached into his black coat and pulled out a pair of glasses before slipping them on to examine the patch further with furrowed brows. Flowers were bent, trampled, and in disarray in an almost circular pattern. He brushed his fingertips against the shape, against the wilted plants. "Rose..." he called to her cautiously, almost in warning. "Remember when I told you we were the only people to ever land here?" His lips curled into an 'o' and his eyes trailed past the indentation, surveying the field before him further ahead. More and more circular-looking intentions, one right after another. His tongue met the roof of his mouth. "Turns out I was wrong." He admitted solemnly, rubbing crushed petals between his fingertips in suspicion.
He jumped to his feet from his former position on his hands and knees, scraping his palms against each other to dust off the dead botanic remains and remnants of dirt, then looked out into the horizon, towards where the trail led. "They're footprints." He explained to her, taking off his Brainy specs, and pushing them back into one of his pockets.
And, not just any footprints. He thought to himself. They're human.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose felt The Doctor squeeze her hand in return. He'd always been loving and affectionate, but this particular version of The Doctor was more than happy to show Rose how he felt. Maybe it was his half-human side allowing him to express that emotion, maybe he felt things more intensely, or maybe it was the fact that they'd finally told the other how they felt. There were still many things unspoken, but the big one, the one that'd been obvious from the start; they'd finally said it. They'd finally taken the next step and were finally together. Properly together. This was their new life, and Rose hoped it would last.
As Rose looked at him, she noticed The Doctor's shoulders relax, as though he'd been holding his breath for every a long time. A part of her realised how scary this must be for him. He wanted to make her happy, that much was obvious, and until now, he'd seemed a little unsure about how happy Rose really was with him. Rose wondered if she'd given him that idea or if he'd always felt that way. Rose was happy, she really was. Happier than she'd been in a long time. But that didn't stop the guilt that crept in whenever she thought of The Doctor, the Time Lord in the other universe that was the very same man stood right next to her. The Doctor was clever enough to know that, no matter how hard Rose tried to hide it.
Rose laughed, and leaned into him. "We just need chips," she grinned. There was a hint of sadness in his voice, and her smile faltered slightly. He was making light of it, but Rose could tell it still bothered him. He wasn't looking at her any longer, but out toward the horizon, his eyes shut as the breeze flew around their faces. She wondered if even the wind felt different to him in his half-human body.
"What is it?" Rose asked, following The Doctor's eye line. She crouched down beside him, noticing the trampled flower. What had caused that? Her brow furrowed as she looked up ahead, as though expecting to see the source, but there was no one there but the two of them. The Doctor was on his feet before Rose had realised what'd happened, and she pulled herself up to full height, watching him pocket his glasses. "What, like a human?" She asked, suddenly a bit unnerved. "But how'd they get here? I thought it was impossible."

His mind swirled around with the same questions hers had. The same observations. He gave her a worried side-glance. "It was," he muttered. "Impossible, I mean," Until, of course, him and Rose had arrived. But, now? This opened a whole new can of worms. "They shouldn't even be here. In fact, they can't," he mused, amid his own thought process as his face scrunched up in a such a way to signal his disbelief. "There can't be life on the planet before life is supposed to be on the planet." He declared in incredulity. But, his gaze hovered on the foot-prints. He couldn't deny the evidence that was right in front of them. His brows furrowed intensely.
Something must have gone wrong.
"Trouble?"
His gaze immediately turned to her, sincerity falling upon his features at that signature word, at the hint of adventure in her voice. A light, a spark, shone in his chocolate eyes, and then his former tension and wonderment was suddenly gone, replaced by the thrill of the chase. "Oh, absolutely!" he exclaimed with a manic grin and quick turn of his head.
And, then they were running. Running towards the horizon and the foreboding darkness. Unknowing what they would find and exactly what kind of trouble they were really barging into--
Just like old times.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The Doctor looked worried, making Rose move a little closer to him. She couldn't help but smile with affection at his thought process, and the slight arrogance that he knew best. "Well, clearly it is," she replied with a hint of amusement. He seemed to know it too, for his brows furrowed as he stared at the trampled flowers, the way the path steered off somewhere to the left.
The Doctor turned to look at her, his expression softening. There was a sudden glint in his eye, the kind he got when finally, something was happening that he hadn't expected. There was an adventure on the horizon. Rose laughed at a sudden grin splashed across his face. Before she knew it, he was pulling her along and they were running full pelt toward the unknown, to another one of their dangerous, thrilling, fantastic adventures.
"Doctor!" She called out suddenly, pulling on his hand to stop him in his tracks. "What's this?" She'd just noticed something. There, on their right, was an archway. A beautiful, ancient looking archway that was engraved with angels and demons, and there was something written at the bottom, but Rose couldn't make it out. She looked at The Doctor, and tugged him along by the hand, immensely curious and a little transfixed. There was a powerful aura around the archway, pulling her in. She scrunched up her eyes and focused on the writing near the bottom. But no, it wasn't her eyesight that was the problem. "I can't read it," she remarked, shocked and a little unnerved. The last time this had happened, they'd met the actual devil. Or, that's what it'd claimed to be. The Doctor had never really known for sure.
"Can you?" She asked, wondering if maybe The TARDIS had blocked her understanding for whatever reason. Maybe The Doctor recognised the language. She hoped he could. The idea that they'd stumbled upon the devil again, especially in a world as beautiful as this... Rose didn't want to think about it.
"Oh wow, these are beautiful!" There were flowers beside the archway -- some were a deep, royal blue while others were crimson. Rose picked a couple, and gently caressed the petals.

It was always so easy -- to slip back into his old shoes, his old trainers. To feel the thrill of the chase, to taste the adventure and the mystery and the wonder and the suspense tickling the tip of his tongue. Although they were no longer the heightened sensations of a Timelord, what he felt was still real. That rush. That vigor. All so very strong now. Before, he was an adrenaline junkie -- hooked only because it was one of the very few things that made him still feel alive after hundreds of years of pain and loss and loneliness. Now, it was a whole different kind of an addiction, but still one that he accepted and craved whole-heartedly.
His heart skipped a beat when she called out to him, and he slowed his stride, looking back at her in question marks. The pull of her hand attracted his attention and stride over to what had caught her eye. He followed her gaze, and his chocolate irises fell upon an arch-way made of white marble, with intricate designs. Engravings of angels and demons. The human hybrid walked over to the structure and ran his fingers across the chiseled embroidery. His eyes narrowed analytically, feeling the texture. Studying the architecture. "Looks to be Minoan. Athenian in nature. Possibly 3rd or 4th century?" he thought aloud in inquiry of this archaeological find. "Beautifully ornate." he went on, now speaking to his blonde best friend and sharing a partial look with her. The tongue met the roof of his mouth the way it did when he was about to be delivering certain facts and trivia about certain cultures. Specifically when relating to the things he stumbled upon. "The Greeks were very talented. They were so gifted with finding the most extraordinary details in the most average things -- people, life, death, love. They were masters of creating stories of myth and legend. The Odyssey. The Illiad," he gobbed, "Medusa -- oh, she was a fun one," he quipped quickly, but he was shortly interrupted by his companion's display of distress.
The Metacrisis Doctor stepped back from the structure, and cast his gaze downwards, squatting beside Rose to inspect the same thing that they both now held squinted eyes at. He threw on his Brainy Specs, and stared at it for a moment, but was, surprisingly, also unable to decipher the writing -- which projected as a mix of strange squiggly symbols that almost looked Shavian. "No, I can't either," The Doctor admitted gravely, both awestruck and concerned by what the revelation could mean. He ran a finger across the engravings. "This writing is old. Impossibly old," he deduced, in disbelief of the situation himself. "It almost reminds me of..." His voice trailed off, flashing back to the time with The Beast at the Kroptor space station. Even the hairs on the back of his neck stood up remembering that.
Then, he stood up abruptly, surveying the architecture with a hardened expression, and weighing his options. Okay. 1) Humans or humanoid beings now resided on a planet that was not ever recorded to have any sentient mortal life at all. 2) Somehow, these people, or things, had brought this piece of Architecture with them, which seemed to derive from early Athens, or what would become Athens. and c) this certain piece of beautiful marble pointed to indispensable hieroglyphs and language that even their new TARDIS wasn't capable of translating. Of course, it could always be that the matrix had not fully integrated and familiarized itself with all the languages/writing in the universe yet, but he highly doubted it, considering that it had seemed fully functional from their initial take-off, and it was almost identical to his former Type 40. But, judging from past experience, it was safe to say that this was not someplace they wanted to stay. If the Beast really was here, or something like it was here, it could spell trouble for him, Rose, and his new relationship with her -- and they may not end up as lucky as they did before.
"I think we should leave." he finally told her, with warning dancing across his features and the tail of his black trench-coat turning in the wind. He could feel something ominous in the air, twisting in the breeze.
A storm was coming. And, for once, he did not want to linger to see what followed in its wake.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The Doctor proceeded to dive into the history of the Greeks, with Rose only half listening. Too enamoured by the beautiful flowers and too unnerved by the strange writing on the wall, she gently touched the engravings with the tips of her fingers. The Doctor noticed her anxiety and squatted down beside Rose, taking out his black, thick-rimmed glasses and taking a closer look. Rose looked sideways at him, grinning. Why he wore those glasses she'd never know. He didn't seem to need them, but for whatever reason, they helped his concentration and she was in no position to argue. Plus, they suited him.
She watched The Doctor's gaze travel over the strange engravings and felt a horrible jolt in the pit of her stomach as he admitted that he couldn't decipher the writing either. "When we were on that space station," she finished for him, her voice suddenly quiet. The Doctor stood to his feet so quickly that Rose started. She followed suit, the beautiful flowers she'd picked, the colour of Lapis Lazuli, still grasped in her hand. Her own hazel eyes continued to survey the archway, the intricate details of angels and demons carved upon the marble. But then The Doctor said something that made her look at him in surprise.
"Are you sure?" She asked, suddenly feeling distinctly unnerved. "That's not like you."
There could only be one reason why he'd decide to leave in such a hurry. "Doctor," Rose began. "You don't think... Do you really think it's the same writing we saw back on that space base?" She wondered if it was his half human side deciding to take caution, his mortal body warning him that there was no second chance if they ran into danger.
Rose took hold of his hand again, and gave a shiver as the sudden breeze blew around their faces, whipping The Doctor's trench coat around his ankles. "If you want to go, then we will. There's plenty of others places we could visit. A nice beach in the Bahamas, perhaps? We could take a stroll along the shore, take a late night swim..." She trailed off, smiling innocently at him.

He weighed their options.
On the one hand, they were on a mythical planet, which was, supposedly, inhabited by an indigenous people that, according to all of history, weren't even supposed to be here. They seemed humanoid. And, they could have possibly borrowed some cultures and traditions from Athenian times. It was something entirely new -- a mystery, of which he felt him and Rose had only stumbled upon by accident. Something had happened, and, somehow, there had never been any record of any living person on the planet of Florana. And, he was very, very curious as to what these people -- if they were people -- looked like, and what that something was. Him and Rose may be the only people to ever see them, and a small part of him had an inkling, a hope, that they would be an entirely new species. He did love learning things, and happening upon new life. And, the urge to find out all the lose threads nagged at him, prodded him to go on. To continue. To embark on the adventure that they had just newly set foot on.
However, on the other hand, the writing upon the architecture seemed too ancient to be real -- though, he could tell, it was real, in the way that it was engraved, the way the curvature of the symbols seemed hand-orchestrated. The fact that it looked a lot like what he and Rose had encountered in the impossible planet unnerved him, and set his human teeth on edge, and there was a large foreboding aura about this place -- about this planet. The minute he had stepped on it, the weather had seemed so nice, the flowers so fresh, but there had always been an ominous presence in the air. Even in his human form, he could feel it. Like someone watching. Waiting. For what, he wasn't sure, but the instinctive side of him told him that he didn't want to know. That it was too risky. Especially since he wasn't Timelord Victorious anymore. Well! Not entirely, anyway.
Even if he did decide to find out what was really on the planet and confront the unfathomable threat that lurked here, he couldn't allow himself to put Rose in danger or possibly even on the front lines, at the inner fear of losing the one that was most precious to his heart. He recalled what happened last time on Kroptor -- how he had almost trapped them both forever. Which, of course, may not actually be the worst case scenario if they were trapped on the planet of flowers. But, he didn't want to take a chance on that if he didn't have to.
"No," he finally answered, shooting to his feet. He stared hard at the beautiful piece of architectural art with an uncertain glint in his eyes. "I'm not sure." he told her honestly with a sharp exhale of breath, taking off his specs, and shoving them into his interdenominational pockets along with his hands.
"It's possible. At the very least, I think it's very similar," he admitted. He swallowed, and then his chocolate irises settled on her with a serious expression and intense eye-brows, obviously struggling with his decision, "...which could be very bad for us."
He welcomed her hand and squeezed hers in his own, bringing a sense of peace to his mind, which was currently at war with itself. It was like the human side of him was battling against the Timelord -- one part of him wanting to take caution, to run, and the other, wanting to risk it all, leap into the unknown, just to find out what all was there. If he left, he would always wonder how it was all connected, and the truth behind the challenge to his former knowledge.
A half-smile flickered onto his features and a bit of a blush, and he shared a sultry glance with his blonde-haired companion. "We could say 'hi' to old Lochness." he half-joked, leaning into her back with a laugh playing on his lips. She was always there to lighten the mood, to make the situation more, make the moment more. To take the load off of his shoulders.
The thing is he knew they should leave. He knew it was a bad idea to stay, to put both their lives in danger. And, it seemed that he had almost convinced Rose of the same.
But, if he was entirely sold on the idea, why did he still feel the need to be here? To stay, despite his earlier inclinations and proclamation? Was something trying to communicate with him, or was it simply the addiction of answers that he just couldn't shake?
His eyebrows furrowed then, as he felt something strange tickling the back of his neck. Like something had suddenly creeped up behind the two of them. He stood very, very still. "Rose," he whispered. "Don't look 'round."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The Doctor was quiet which was most unlike him. It probably unnerved Rose more than anything else. The only time The Doctor was quiet was when he was struggling to contain himself. Either he was angry -- which wasn't the case -- or he'd worked something out that meant imminent danger and he was trying his best to navigate their route to safety without frightening Rose. He needn't have bothered. Rose could read him like a book these days. Or, Rose thought. He was battling between wanting to go somewhere and wanting to keep Rose safe.
It came as a relief when The Doctor inhaled, coming out of his reverie. He whipped off his glasses, seemingly deciding on something. Rose was glad to find her hand granted him some peace, his deep brown eyes, that still bore into her own, relaxed slightly.
The blush that quickly followed was endearing, and so very human. Rose's smile broadened into a wide grin and she laughed as he cracked a joke. There it was. That old cheekiness. Rose reached up on tiptoe and leaned forward, about to place a gentle kiss against his lips when she noticed the look on his face.
"What-?" She replied quietly, her expression changing from confused to terrified as she exactly what The Doctor told her not to do. She looked round. The creature was massive. Rose's mouth fell open, and her eyes widened in fear as she tried to comprehend what she was seeing.
It was a spider. But a spider the size of a car. It was also a very dark shade of orange -- almost brown -- and it's pincers like two, thick tree branches. The spider's eight, black eyes stared at Rose, and Rose stared back, too scared to move, or do anything at all.
But then it jolted forward and Rose let out an ear-splitting scream. She couldn't help it. Grabbing The Doctor by the hand, she ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction. They were moving further away from The TARDIS now, away from the archway and along a winding path that led them downwards, into the thickets and finally reaching a breath-taking waterfall.
"What do we do?" Rose cried, panicked and panting.

"No-- Don't!"-- He cried, his eyes widened and his hand reached out to stop her turning, to stop her from the very thing he told her not to do. But, then her eyes fell on the creature the same second his hand wrapped around her waist, on whatever it was that had been standing behind them, and he gritted his teeth against the situation, then against the monster at hand as he himself found himself gazing up at the gargantuan tarantula. His tense expression easily and effortlessly collapsed into a wondrous one, with his brown eyes alight with awe and his mouth forming an "o" upon encountering the new species. "Oh, aren't you beautiful..." He bewildered bluntly, and lingering a moment too long to stare.
It wasn't until Rose screamed that the Doctor was suddenly knocked from his reverie, and the two of them moved in just the right moment upon the enormous arachnid lurching forward. "Run!" He shouted, realizing now that they were probably being hunted. Sought out and intended to be webbed up as the eight-legged beast's next meal.
"I told you not to look!" he shouted.
Then, they were running, hand in hand gripped tightly, and the Metacrisis was following after Rose, all the while glancing behind his shoulder to gauge the arachnid's movements, to notice that they were running further and further away from the place that they should have been running to. But, it couldn't be helped. They were being chased, and the Human Timelord would much rather had stood a chance being alive than take the risk of becoming spider fodder. Though, if they didn't come up with something soon, the latter could become a real possibility.
He bent over once they reached the waterfall, hands on his knees, his face somewhat pained from the running, but making sure to keep a careful eye on the creature that had just been crawling after them at immense speed. He took a moment to catch his breath, and then straightened himself up to look at Rose with an arched eyebrows. To tell the truth, he wasn't quite sure himself. He looked back towards the thickets one last time, trying to analyze what the creature would or could be doing while they were temporarily hiding, his expression a bit grave. "It'll probably find something else to feast on. But, then it'll start looking for us again." He explained, alluding that it would be a couple minutes before it found them, with how instinctive insects were. Thankfully, it seemed a bit slow. "And, when it does," He added with a pause, "we'll have to have something to fight it with." As much as he hated hurt a new species or even the mere thoughts of it, it was no good if said species were non-communal and obviously wanted to eat them. They needed something to hold it off.
At least now we know where the ominious presence was coming from. He concluded, remarking to himself that the feeling he had felt had gotten considerably stronger since seeing the big bug. But, it still didn't explain the archway, or the writing, or... the thing that was bothering him most. The footprints. And, if all of it was connected... then there was probably something or someone bigger at work here.
But, none of these things currently were the most pressing concern right now.
Okay, Doctor, think. "If I was a big bad spider, what would I be afraid of?" He asked himself rhetorically, his brain working a mile a minute, his face scrunched into thinking mode. "He's still a spider... so pesticides? A big boot? One part vinegar, two parts water?" he continued, weighing what he knew, and rifling through the rummage of his mind and being just a bit too thick. The only problem, of course, being, that him and Rose didn't have any of these things. There was something else. Something they did have.
He glanced back toward the hill, his brown gaze surveying the octonical-ped from a distance. Any second, it would see them, sense them. It would find them.
There was something he was missing. But what was it?
"What else?" He asked Rose in anticipation, framing his strong thin hands on either of her arms. He searched her eyes. "What am I missing?"
He gritted his teeth in frustration, in the pressure of what was happening. He had to be quick. They had to be quick.
But, if he knew one thing, he knew that Rose always had the answer. She always said what he needed to hear -- the perfect thing.
And, in this moment, he needed her more than ever.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet "Well, you shouldn't have said anything!" Rose shot back at him as they ran. It was human nature to look round when someone told you not to. Everyone knew that, Then again, The Doctor hadn't been human for very long. Rose had to keep reminding herself that The Doctor was still learning how to be human, just as she was learning about the universe. Her reaction had probably seemed a little daft to a Time Lord, even a hybrid one.
When at last they reached the waterfall, Rose, still panting, eyed The Doctor with a mixture of admiration and incredulousness. "Don't tell me you like that thing?" She asked him, clutching her side. She could see it in his eyes; that thirst and wonder for the weird and wonderful. The Doctor was arching his eyebrows at her and Rose realised he was thinking on his feet. She was quiet for a moment, her own mind whirring with possible ideas.
"Ah, problem solved then," She said sardonically. "Are your pockets bigger on the inside too?" Rose couldn't see anything nearby that could be used as a weapon, but Rose knew they would have to come up with something fast. "We're not going to hurt it, are we?" Scared as she was, Rose didn't want to kill the creature. This was his home, and they were the ones invading his habitat, not the other way around.
Rose watched him, a tiny smile on her face. Even in desperate situations, she loved watching his mind work, and she felt a surge of adrenaline and a sudden urge to help him. To please him. "I mean, normally Mum traps them under a glass," Rose remarked, somehow finding the funny side despite the frightening situation. "I guess we can't do that with this big guy though..."

He couldn't help the smirk that tugged on his lips, or the cocky, cheeky eyebrow raise that came with it. He eyed her playfully for a moment as they ran for their lives. Just another day in the park for the Doctor and Rose Tyler. When they came to a halt, he couldn't resist his response. "Don't tell me you're jealous..." he replied somewhat in a joking stride.
His deep brown eyes stared at her, analyzing her reaction, and rudely remarked the thought that crossed his mind in a brief and swift mumbling. "You sound more and more like your mother everyday," he grievanced to himself, probably much to Rose's disdain. He immediately regretted the words as soon as they left his lips, but there wasn't much he could do about that now. Instead, he frantically tried to jump back onto the real problem, cover it up with what they were currently battling. "Right," he said in differentiation, "No, we're not going to hurt it." He told her, trying to think of a way to dispose of the creature without hurting it. But, that was proving to be more difficult than he had originally anticipated. "Well!" he added, "We're not going to hurt it a lot.." He remedied, his index fiddling with his ear-lobe as he explained what he meant. "It'll be more like small sting. Just a general... tiny, small, mini-cerebral impulse... but, nothing serious. Nah! It'll be just like pulling off a band-aid. Nothing to worry about."
He already knew, whatever they were about to do, it wasn't going to be a perfect or pleasant experience for their eight-legged friend. But, it was better than being devoured by it. The Spider had found them now, and was crawling its way towards them. Slow enough to buy them an extra few seconds, but eerie in its purposeful hunt.
They had to be quick.
But, the pieces were slowly coming together. His Timelord-Human brain was still fresh, still not as quick at making certain connections, but he had improved exponentially thanks to her being there, cheering him on. Helping him out. Just as she was doing now. And, while his brown eyes searched hers for an answer to their current problem, what she said next had been the best thing she could have given him. As ordinary as it was, as seemingly insignificant as her remark could seem, there was something that shifted his synapses.. "Glass... Bigger On the Inside..." he whispered, his eyebrows coming together in a recognizable train of thought, in the genesis a new idea that he hadn't even considered before.
"That's it!" he beamed, landing a kiss on her forehead. "Rose Tyler, you're brilliant!"
Then, without a second thought, he pulled a medium-sized magnifying glass out of his trench-coat pocket, and aimed it at the gargantuan arachnid. "Come on," he taunted lowly, as the spider began to inch closer, hoping that what he was doing would work. In a moment of luck, the clear lens reflected the light from the planet's sun, refracting and reflecting it onto the large insect. It screamed as the hot rays stung its body, and tumbled backward in an attempt to get away. The light shone brighter, and, if one looked closely, they could see the humongous spider wiggling in pain, but also begin to get smaller. It shrank and shrank, de-sizing until it no longer could be seen by the naked eye, and the light dissipated.
The Doctor ran over to the spot the spider had stood, and squatted down before pulled out a small mason jar, a grin overcoming his face at the small spider scurrying upon the ground that had just been tormenting them moments before. "There you are, little fella," With precise timing, he scooped the spider up into the glass trap, and plopped screwed the top on before standing up to his full height.
He turned to Rose, a wonder and ecstatic eccentricity flowing through him as he handed the small pet to his blonde armour at their short victory. "Here you go. Safe and sound." He smiled in a beautiful array of whites. He wouldn't have been able to do it without her.

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you "Shut up!" Rose laughed, indignant, knocking into his arm. Okay, so yes -- Rose had to admit that she was like Jackie. Her mother was wonderful, but she was also a bit... Well, nuts. So, when The Doctor remarked on their likeness, she had a sneaky feeling he hadn't meant it as a compliment.
Rose was relieved to hear they weren't going to harm the giant, man-eating spider. Stop it yes, but not harm. Not only was it cruel, it would no doubt unleash a reign of terror and they'd end up in some kind of spider vs. man war, and that was a battle Rose was very keen to avoid. Rose grimaced. "Much?" She repeated, not completely sure she wanted the full explanation. The Doctor seemed to be trying to convince himself as much as Rose, and it was doing nothing to ease her worries. He was way ahead of her though, as he always was, even with his half-human brain.
She'd spoken without thinking, a useless remark in the grand scheme of things, but somehow it had triggered something in The Doctor's brain, making Rose beam up a him with pride. "Happy to help," she laughed, not quite understanding what she'd said or what he had in mind, but glad all the same. She watched in amazement as he pulled out a magnifying glass that should've been way too big for his pockets. "Where'd that come from?!" She asked, eyebrows shooting up her forehead.
The Doctor wasn't listening. He'd turned his attention to the gargantuan arachnid, aiming the magnifying glass right at it. Rose realised a second too late what was about to happen, and let out a shout as the spider squealed in pain. "Doctor!" She cried, face scrunched up as she covered her ears in an attempt to block the ear-splitting screech. She watched as the spider began to shrink -- smaller and smaller until it was so small, Rose couldn't see where it had gone. The Doctor could though, and he quickly hurried over and scooped up the little guy.
Very cautiously, Rose lowered her hands and headed on over. The Doctor turned to face her, triumphant. "You did it!" She said, grinning at him. "Is he okay?" Very gently, Rose lifted the jar to eye level. "Is he... Going to stay that way? I mean, won't his spider friends come looking for him?" Her large hazel eyes, peered up at The Doctor from over the top of the jar. "We should release him and put him back to his normal size once we're back in the TARDIS, yeah?" Half-joking, but secretly quite serious she added, "I don't want a spider war on our hands!"

He grinned briefly -- the kind that gave a flash of his tongue between his teeth -- at her reaction. He knew that she knew the truth all too well. No one could fight genetics. She couldn't help it-- it was in her blood. Just like he was half-Timelord. Blimey, if he could count the number of times he'd been smacked because of his expansive, impregnably big head of stuff.
"Pockets." he'd said once it was all over, with raise of his eyebrows. Then, he stopped examining the jar for a moment to look up briefly at Rose. "I always carry a magnifying glass with me," he told her. He'd figured it was common knowledge by now.
His eyebrows scrunched and he shoved his hands into his pants pockets in contemplative thought. The kind of thought that he could easily get lost in if it wasn't for the love of his life by his side. "Nope. He doesn't have any other friends. Well! Not any his size anyway," The Doctor told her definitely. "He was just a regular spider before he was stretched to gargantuan size." he explained, "Then, we shrunk him back to normal. There won't be any spider wars for at least another thousand years." he sighed, beginning to walk in stride back to whence they had come. "Question is--" He stopped to lean against a nearby boulder, and dug in his pockets to retrieve his brainy specs, placing them on. He then took the jar from Rose to examine it once more, spinning it slowly in the palm of his hand. "--who or what brought him here... because he doesn't belong on this planet." he murmured, feeling like he was somehow mentally blocked by a brick wall. It seemed almost as if, the more they learned about this place, this Planet of Flowers, the deeper and deeper the novel droned. Already, there were so many mysteries, and they'd only just landed.
He bit his lip, trying to reason whether it was worth staying. "The spider is caught in the web... but who let it loose at the start?" he asked himself as well as Rose, trying to understand the deeper puzzle that was at work. There was so much to uncover. Almost too much, and he partially wondered if he had been lured here by external forces somehow.
