River Song
"You, me, handcuffs, must it always end this way?"
✧ THE BASICS,
ALIASES. Professor Song, Melody malone, Melody Pond, Mels Zucker, to name a few.
AGE. 220+ Appeared to be in her early to mid 40's
SPECIES. Human/timelord hybrid, Child of the TARDIS
DOB.the 52nd century, date unknown.
SEXUALITY. bi-flexible
TIME OF ORIGIN. Born in the 52nd century, but she has traveled in time all of her life. She considers modern-day earth, to be her own time.
PLACE/PLANET OF ORIGIN. Born and spent the first decade or so at Demon's Run, but doesn't consider it as home, Earth has a special place in her hearts though.
OCCUPATION. River does have a degree in archeology and does love a good dig, but she does take on just as many odd jobs.
APPEARANCE. The first thing you will notice about her, is her hair. It's big and curly. Has been said to hide secrets of the universe. It's dark-blonde and pretty much lives a life of its own. Taming it is impossible, it's much like the woman it grows on, in that way.
River stands at 1,7 meters, she has got an average build, tiny waist, and strong arms. She does love clothes and especially the right clothes, to match the situation. But no matter the situation, she has to be able to move in them. As she loved high heels, she has taught herself to run in them. So she doesn't have to sacrifice fashion for practicality. Well, not always, anyway. And she tends to lean towards the more figure-hugging of clothes. She's a 'if you've got it, flaunt it' kinda person.
FACE CLAIM. Alex Kingston
✧ THE DEPTH,
PERSONALITY. River is a ball of fire! She is a daredevil who will basically do anything for the hell of it. She has absolutely no filter, she says what she likes, no matter the consequences. Except for when it comes to The Doctor or anything to do with their timeline. She is very careful to not spoil anything or to give away any emotions she does not want him to see. Like weakness. She hates to seem weak, not just with her husband. But it's much easier to act strong, with people who don't know her. River loves to act like she doesn't have a care in the world when in reality, she has a very insecure side to her.
She did have a traumatic childhood and she has spent a lot of her life, in jail. She might act like she totally fine and over it, but she is definitely not. If she started seeing a therapist, she would never be out of there.
River dreams sometimes, of living a normal life, a family, a job. Just nice and quiet. But at the same time, she can't stand still for five minutes and she knows that she would feel trapped by such a life. And if there's anything she dislikes or fears, it's being trapped. Or controlled, for that matter. She is very independent because she has to be, but she is also proud of the fact. She doesn't need anyone and nobody needs her. With all the good and bad things that brings with it.
- She has the mind of a bull, once she puts her mind to something, it's nearly impossible to stop her.
- She loves and adores kids, but they also scare the crap out of her, as does the thought of being a mother.
- She'll flirt with anything that has a pulse. Within reason of course. What I mean is, that she's not picky when it comes to sex or race. She has even dated robots.
- She loves to read.
- She loves dressing up and going out. And drinking too
BIOGRAPHY. Melody Pond was born on Demon's Run, to human parents. Her mother, Amy Pond, had been kidnapped while pregnant and replaced by a doppelganger, so Madame Kovarian could kidnap Melody as soon as she was born. Since she was conceived in the time vortex, Melody had gotten Timelord-like abilities, like regeneration and other strengths as well. Madame Kovarian had chosen her, to be the person who would rid the universe of The Doctor, once and for all.
Within the first decade of her life, little Melody was trained to be an assassin, called Richard Nixon several times, and lived on the streets of New York. Not exactly a normal childhood. But River's life has never really been that.
After her first regeneration, she turned into Mels Zucker, where she got to grow up alongside her parents. Mels was the troublemaker of the group and Amy was the sensible one, which lead to her being the one scolding Mels, for getting into trouble. Much like a mother would.
Being the best of friends, Amy told Mels all about her raggedy doctor and Mels was obsessed with her stories. Mels dreamed about marrying The Doctor.
It was at this stage of her life, that Mels finally got to really meet The Doctor. She held him at gunpoint, shot up the TARDIS, and ordered him to fly them to Belin during world war two.
Mels got shot by a ricocheting bullet, fired by Hitler himself and as she started to regenerate, she told her parents who she was.
Finally appearing as River Song, her training kicked right in and she managed to land a kiss on The Doctor while wearing a lipstick laced with Judas tree poison. Which would poison him, beyond his regenerating capabilities. Considering the deed done, River sauntered off to terrorize Berlin and find something better to wear.
Returning later, to watch The Doctor kick the bucket. River was surprised when he put aside his own pain, to save her parents from the danger they were in at the time. He told her to pilot the TARDIS to them and she did. Not under his instructions, but instructed by the TARDIS itself. It was in these moments that River really started to fight against her training and see The Doctor for who he was. And the warmth she was met with, from the TARDIS was unlike anything she had ever felt. It seemed impossible that something like that, could be a bad thing.
In his dying moments, The Doctor gave her a heartfelt message to pass on to River Song. It wasn't until after he had passed, that she found out, that she herself was River Song. Realizing the mistake she had made, killing a man who would obviously come to mean a great deal to her, in the future, River passed on her remaining regenerations to The Doctor. And with that, bringing him back to life.
Years later, after having gotten a doctorate in archeology from Luna University. Madame Kovarian appeared again along with The Silence. They seized her and forced her into a modified spacesuit. Since she had already failed her mission once, they weren't waiting around for her to fulfill it on her own accord. She was submerged in Lake Silencio, in Utah, to wait for The Doctor.
When the time came to kill him, River fought with all her might. Now knowing what he would come to mean to her, she had no intention of ruining one of the only good things she had had or was going to have in her life. Rewriting a fixed point in time, made time shatter into a reality, where all of history was happening at once. The only way to fix it, was if she and The Doctor touched and she was not about to let that happen. It wasn't until The Doctor showed her, that he would be fine because he was on the inside of a robot. That she would agree to touch him and make time go back to normal. That touch just so happened to be the kiss that sealed their wedding ceremony.
But to the world, she still killed him. So River was placed in Stormcage containment facility. Twelve thousand consecutive life sentences. River took the punishment so that the Silence believe that he really was dead. That didn't mean that she stayed in the prison though. No, River found it quite easy to break out, and in again, even without a TARDIS. But then a vortex manipulator will have that effect.
River had numerous adventures while living in the prison. Most of them with The Doctor, when he would come by her cell at night and whisk her away. One of those adventures was going back to Utah, to watch herself shoot The Doctor, while he was inside that robot. Only she couldn't tell her parents that. They had to believe that it was true. There was a lot of pretending and lying to be done, to make sure the timeline stayed the same. River had already messed with it once, there was no telling what would happen if she did it again. And River wasn't about to find out.
It was many years before River would leave Stormcage. Not because she had seen out her sentence, but because she was pardoned. Suddenly there was no evidence that the man she had supposedly killed, had ever existed. This was because The Doctor had erased himself from every database in the universe. It was a bit odd to her, to suddenly have nowhere to go. She had always had either Luna or Stormcage to go back to, at the end of an adventure. This was different and she loved it.
Returning to New York in 1938, River started her own detective agency. She was looking into the weeping angels that had started popping up around New York. She knew that weeping angels were bound to make a lot of trouble and that was usually a good place to find The Doctor. Of course, she was right in this. Rory was the first who turned up, having been sent back in time by an angel. The Doctor and Amy, needed a bit of help finding them because the angels were consuming a lot of time energy, which made time travel difficult.
The Angels had set up a sort of 'farm' where they would trap anyone who entered Winter Quay, have them meet themselves in their dying moments, and then send them back in time, to grow old, until that moment when they would meet their younger self. To destroy the farm, her parents threw themselves from a rooftop, to create a paradox, which would poison the farm, making it unusable for the angels. Doing so, killed all the angels, apart from one. But that one angel would do more damage to River than all the others combined. Including the one that made her break her own wrist, to escape it.
It snuck up on the group, as they were about to leave and sent Rory back to the 1930's New York. That place and time was still ruined by all the time energy, that traveling there was impossible. And knowing that, Amy let the angel send her back too, so she could spend the rest of her life with Rory. It broke both River and The Doctor, but River had to stay strong, while The Doctor broke down, so the angel wouldn't send them back in time too. She didn't like to show her weakness in front of him anyway. But that didn't exactly make it any easier on her.
Up until this point, River had only seen her husband's first 11 faces. She assumed that that was all the faces he had, as that was a normal lifespan for a Timelord. So when she ran into a man who called himself a doctor, she didn't even entertain the thought that it could be him. She was looking for a doctor at the time, so she dragged him along to meet her other husband. Not that she really considered herself married to him. Not anymore than she thought herself to be married to Stephen Fry. No, she married the diamond that was stuck inside his head. Which was why she needed a doctor, she would have preferred a surgeon, but a doctor would do.
Of course, nothing quite went as planned and she eventually discovered that this doctor was in fact, her doctor. According to him 'a thing happened' and they didn't really have the time to talk about it then. Not that they needed to. He had more lives and that was all she really needed to know. The ship they were on at the time, was about to crash so there were other things that were more important. Like arguing about who got to sacrifice themself, to save the ship, as it was about to crash. Realizing that there was no saving it, they both took shelter in the TARDIS, as the ship crashed into the planet of Darillium. The impact knocked River out cold.
When she came to and exited the TARDIS she found herself in the most lavish of restaurants. The Doctor was waiting for her, with a present, that was her very own sonic screwdriver. Before this point in time, River had heard many stories, that said that their night on Darillium would be their last. The thought scared her, more than anything. She lived for the days when she got to see him. And if there were no more, then what would she do? Did it mean that she was close to her own end? Or was it just the end of them as a couple, but not individuals?
When she asked him about it, he just said one word "Spoilers" which in the situation sounded as much as a confirmation than anything. He had been promising her, to take her to The Singing Towers, for ages. But he always canceled at the last minute. It made sense if that was why. That he didn't want the night to come just yet either.
Feeling as if she was staring down the barrel of a gun, she nervously asked how long a night on Darillium lasted. If this was the last night they had, she was going to make the most of every minute. His reply of "24 years" was very unexpected though. She had expected them to only have hours and now they had years. River couldn't have asked for a better gift.
They were the best years of her life.
But then came the Library. She met with her husband there, but not the husband she had hoped for. It was a version of him, that had never seen her before. And when the time came and he was about to sacrifice himself, to save the people trapped in the Library's mainframe, River knew that she had to take his place. She realized that this meant that he had known, all this time, how it would end for her. The fresh-faced man, she had handcuffed to stop him from intervening, would still have all that to come. And he would still let himself care for her, knowing how it would end.
He begged her not to do it, but she had to. To protect their timeline, to make sure that he had all that to come.
Of course, The doctor couldn't just let it end like that. Having had years to think about it, he had made sure to put some sort of device into her screwdriver, that had obsorbed her consciousness. Making him able to save her to the mainframe of the Library.
And that is where she is to this day. Trapped in a loop of stories that will never change, in a digital prison. Hoping that The Doctor will come and save her once again. But then she thinks back to Darillium. Would he really give her such a sendoff, if he was planning to save her? As time goes by, she doubts him and their love more and more. Hoping against hope, that she is wrong.
OTHER/MEDICAL INFORMATION. She has two hearts and is stronger than a normal human.
SAMPLE.
She doesn’t do it on purpose, well, she does sometimes, but this is not one of those times. Sometimes she does go looking for trouble, in the hope of The Doctor turning up to help. But she’s been doing this for too long and 9 out of 10 times, he doesn’t show at all. Unlike The Doctor though, sometimes River just escapes trouble, without solving it, because she runs faster than the people chasing her.
Like now, running down an alley in 31st century New York, guns blazing. She might have gotten on the bad side of a group of gangsters (yes, there will always be gangsters in New York). But that’s not the important thing. The important thing is, that when she turned a corner, she collided with a wooden surface. There wasn’t much time to recover from the shock, but she didn’t need it, all it took was one look and River knew what she had run into.
The sound of running feet was still approaching, so River hurried up and fished out her key from her leather pants and unlocked the door, hurried inside and let it slam shut behind her. Leaned up against the door, River looked at the desktop. She had seen it before, of course, but her heart still sank a bit as she knew he wouldn’t know her. She always knew him, but he hardly ever recognized her. Still, she put on her brave face, River had seen much worse than this, this was nothing.
“Hello Sweetie, I trust you won’t mind giving me a lift?” River smiled as she stepped up to the console and helped herself, moving levers and pressing buttons, but not taking off, not yet.
