The sounds of scraping and running could be heard over the dulled sounds of the city. Also the sounds of metallic objects dropping and falling could be heard as well. Their clangs random and not too close. It seemed Jack had his own set of problems as he chased down his culprit who looked very much like a pint sized gremlin. It was green in color, had long ears, a wide almost near frog like mouth with a set of razor sharp teeth inside, an almost oval button nose, and some very reptilian like eyes. In its toned gangly arms with long fingers, it carried a box of things that seemed bigger than itself. Inside the box was all sorts of metal objects, most of which were house hold items no one would miss, but the miscreant was still an alien thief none the less and a thief that may have taken something potentially important of Torchwoods as well. Had it escaped the Hub somehow...maybe.
Its clothing looked out of place, but to a random human it might have seemed like someone who could have been a misplaced hobo at quick glance, and a mutant at worst glance. Not everyone still believed in aliens, it's just how humans were. Something the Doctor talked about quite often. Speaking of, he was back with his team, the whole milk run to the distant ending future and that year of hell, far behind him now.
Jack had to admit, running across Cardiff in the most uncommon fashion, was something he missed quite a lot. However, dodging metal objects wasn't fully his idea of a good time. But he'd take the thrill of the chase even for a few metal objects possibly hitting him. It made him breath in deeply as he tried to catch up with the little mongrel.
"Damn it's great to be back!" he said out loud to himself with a grin as he pushed his speed of chase to be just a hair faster. He was going to catch that alien if it was the last thing he'd do. And then for a few moments it would, because eventually he did catch the little gremlin alien.
It had come time to test out their new little device. Pulling it out from under his arm he tapped a few buttons on it to get it to activate. The gremlin creature noticed and tried to dodge and weave out of the way to make sure whatever it was wouldn't attack, hit, or effect him. Unfortunately in the scuffle to get away, the gremlin ran into something and ended up dropping the box far below to the ground. Oh yeah, was it mentioned they had been doing a bit of roof top jumping a bit as part of the chase? In any case, Jack, fed up with trying to just point and catch, he eventually tried to corner the bugger and then leap at it.
Of course this worked fortunately, but unfortunately, Jack kept right on going after gaining the momentum to zip the creature into the little cage device and went right off the edge of the roof in the process. He knew what this would do to him, but it wouldn't matter. He did, however, give a sigh of inconvenience as he fell to his inevitable doom. Falling, the Torchwood Agent landed square on his back, the wind knocked out of him before the life left him and the cage rolling away before it stopped and the light of the strange sort of portal door closed fully. If anyone saw it from a distance it would have looked like the flash of a phone camera lenses. He'd come to eventually, but no one, unless they truly knew him, would know that.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet "Quick, there it goes!"
They had been chasing some green looking gremlin creature all across the universe for so long now, Rose was quite sure she could run a marathon. It wasn't strictly dangerous, at least not on a large scale, but it needed to go home. Yet, for some reason, it was doing everything in it's power, not to get caught. She tumbled out of The Tardis, tugging The Doctor along with her. They'd been so close last time, it had somehow got away through a portal in just the nick of time.
"Look, up on the roof!" She stopped, catching her breath for a second as the gremlin scrambled onto the roof and hopped over to the next. What was strange, was there was a man chasing after it. "...Jack?"
Rose's eyes widened and she gaped at The Doctor to see if he'd recognised him. He was so fast, she'd only caught a quick glimpse of him, but Rose would know that face anywhere. Her heart leaping and with a new found energy, she chased after them, weaving between people and cars, and who knew what. They were both very fast and were now far ahead, but they were still within Rose's eyeline.
That was when she saw it.
"Jack!" She screamed, watching him leap, without hesitation, off a roof. Blind with panic and all thoughts of the gremlin now forgotten, she skidded around the corner to find Jack flat on his back, dead. "Doctor! Doctor, he's here!"
"Jack," she said again, quietly this time and tears welling up in her eyes. She fell to her knees beside him, helpless, when something suddenly clicked in her mind, like a lightbulb. "Wait a minute..." She gently cradled his head in her arms, hoping, praying that any second now...
"Doctor, do you think he'll...?"

Darkness...that's all there seemed to be as far as the eye could see. Just nothing, stretches of nothing and silence. Plenty of silence. It would and maybe even should have been blissful to the end, but in all honesty it felt...wrong. It didn't feel blissful or peaceful in any sort of way. More like skin crawling and creepy. Empty, yet like you couldn't feel alone at all, but there was nothing there to prove otherwise. And then just as fast as that expanse of eternity felt like it could go on forever, it was gone. Snatched away like a rubber band and there he was, back inside his body, his lungs racking for air just like many times before. This was getting really old. But at the same time he was so used to it that it was almost like breathing, well no not really it was a pain in the ass, and it really wasn't breathing at all, but one could get the gist.
Instantly his eyes fluttered open as he tried to gauge his surroundings and try and recall what it was he had been doing as if he had, had a momentary lapse of forgetfulness like some old man would. Well he was an old man, but hey he looked good didn't he? Yeah he looked good. He sat up abruptly as well, always forgetting the fact that sitting up equated to dizzy spell. Though he didn't care apparently because he did it nearly every damn time. But then as much as he was trying to get the situation to flood back into his mind, he was also trying to figure out just where the actual hell he remembered that voice from! He knew it well. He just was taking a momentary laps of remembering.
But then the good old adrenaline kicked in and it all started flooding back like a rush of water. He recalled why he was on the ground and exactly why he died and what had killed him. He remembered trying to catch that stupid alien in that little toy of his. Looking about he saw the box lying just a bit of distance away. Good it was shut and it only giggled a bit and thing shouting out strings of obscenities like a truck driver to prove the little jerk was definitely inside. Served the thing right. It was lucky him dying didn't put him in a fouler mood. However, his gaze didn't stop there. it continued to rover about noting there was another presence there, and just by chance as his blurry gaze was clearing fully, he could tell that the figure next to him was none other than Rose Tyler! What in world was she doing there? Last he remembered she was in Pete's World, lost forever. It wasn't quite kicking in yet that there was the potential chance of out of sync visits to Earth. Apparently the fall had knocked him a round too many this time.
"Rose?" he half asked half stated, raising a brow a small smirk crossing his face.

It had been about a month since they had found the green creature and traced it back to its home planet. It had been causing trouble in the Vega nebula when they had spotted it, siphoning energy from its central light source and causing the civilization to be on the verge of starvation. Thankfully, they had managed to catch the Greendal before he was able to absorb the effervescence completely -- and had been well on their way to returning him where he rightfully belonged, until, of course, he had slipped away, using the current he had collected to create a portal, no less. He really had some spunk, this little thing. But, the chase for the fluffy Gremlin-looking creature was beginning to irk the human Doctor.
He furrowed his eyesbrows as he came to a halt beside Rose, following her pointed finger and gaze to the shingles of a neighbourhood home. The Metacrisis immediately recognized it as someplace familiar... and, more importantly, somewhere that was no longer within the parallel world.
The rift they had followed the Greendal into had led them smack-dap right into their original reality. The real world, Rose's world.
And, that wasn't the only familiarity staring the black-coated pin-striped man in the face.
His bushy brows only deepened once he noticed him -- the man that could never die. "We're in Cardiff." he murmured, just realizing the exact location of where they'd landed. Of where the Greendal had chosen to come. A look of concern crossed his features as more pieces of the thought came together.
The creature had sensed it. The rift. The same energy, seeping spacial hole he had used to refuel the TARDIS, and now, ARTEMIS...
The severity of his seriousness grew, only intensifying by Rose's calling. His head turned to her voice, and then he turned a corner to follow her. He slowed and stopped a few feet from Jack's body, shoving his hands into trenchcoated pockets as he gazed at him expectantly, almost disapprovingly. He still got that feeling. Even only being half-Timelord, the gut instinct still vibrated throughout his being. The man that could never die... The Torchwood leader he was looking at was wrong -- an anomaly. Hard to be near. It was like trying to force two repelling ends of a magnet together.
"Rose--" He tried to warn her, but then he saw the recognition upon her distressed brown eyes. And, he knew she remembered.
"Yeah." He answered her, watching them carefully, both wanting to keep his distance and put his hands on her shoulders. This was the part he struggled with -- the human and the timelord part of him, fighting. An internal conflict that would, seemingly, never reach its end, until one side won out over the other.
He waited.
And, just as he said, the marvelous 51st century con man came back to life without warning. But, the Doctor was used to it. Even being half-human, he remembered seeing it happen at least a dozen times. Just not in this body. Not in this life. "Hello, Jack. Welcome back. I don't think I've ever seen you willingly die from a leap of faith before, but I guess there is a first time for everything." The Metacrisis greeted sardonically to remind them both that he was still there, still not quite happy with all of his past decision-making or the task at hand -- which they were all ignoring on the account of the immortal man. Or Jack leaping off a building, knowing he would miss the landing in the beginning. And, of course, seeing him and Rose together certainly sent a small spark of jealousy through the human Doctor, knowing how they had been when the two had first met, and Jack himself was the epitome of a libertine.
Needless to say, he was a bit hesitant to leave the two alone together.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose looked up as The Doctor said her name. He’d spoken in such a way, that for a moment she’d believed danger nearby. In fact, it was The Doctor’s own private battle that was causing him such conflict. She’d look up just in time to see him staring down at Jack’s mangled body with a distinct look of disapproval. He didn’t seem particularly bothered that his old friend was dead, probably because as usual, he’d been three steps ahead of Rose and had already sussed that soon, Jack would be right back with them, living and breath as though nothing had happened. ”Doctor-“ She began, about to tell him to take that look off his face, when Jack suddenly let out a deep, shuddering breath.
Rose started as Jack’s body started up again, before she sighing with relief and beaming up at the Doctor. It was both amazing and slightly unnerving to see him come to life again, especially after watching jump from the roof of a building. It was as if on some subconscious level, even she knew it was against the very laws of nature. But unlike The Doctor, Rose didn’t care. She was just glad to see her friend alive. Not to mention, it was her fault Jack was the way he was, and she’d felt immensely guilty ever since.
She smiled into Jack’s face as his eyes fluttered open. He sat up abruptly, making Rose leap back too, but she stayed close, holding her arms out as though he were about to lose his balance at any second. She tilted her head to the side, making sure he was okay. He hadn’t seemed to have noticed her yet, his eyes still slightly glazed as he came back to reality. Rose didn’t speak again, allowing Jack the time to come around in his own time. When at last he looked in her direction, she was relieved to find that glimmer of recognition. She grinned at the sound of her name. ”Jack,” she replied happily, and flung her arms around his neck. ”Oh, I’ve missed you!”

"Oof! Hello to you too!" he stated, somewhere between happy and confused. Rose and The Doctor, well at least that Doctor, were not supposed to be there. Were they? Time was not linear he remembered The Doctor talking about, but still. Something about them being there just seemed off. Probably as much as his own paradoxical self seemed off to The Doctor. Touche universe, touche...
"I'm a bit surprised to see the both of you, that's for certain. What are you doing here?" he began to ask as he started to slowly orientate himself more to the situation, including reaching and grabbing the trapped creature. Still destine on making loud obnoxious sentences that really shouldn't be uttered in children's ears. He really wanted to shake the damn thing. Instead all he did was knock on it and said, "Ahhh shut your cake hole! You've been enough trouble for one mission."
He gave an apologetic look, not realizing these two had dealt with the pain themselves, "Sorry about that, this little guy thought it'd be cute to try and steal stuff from Torchwood and well other random things...but still."
Looks back at the box, "Didn't think that one all the way through now did ya! Didn't think I'd honestly catch you eh! Guess again."
He looked at The Doctor trying to figure him out. Hadn't he just finished traveling with Martha? Why would he be here with Rose? Maybe it was some odd dumb timey wimey thing as The Doctor called it and it was a moment out of sync with the rest of his time lord self. It could happen right?

The Metacrisis, being something of a copy of his tenth incarnation, couldn't help but roll his eyes. Even when Jack wasn't flirting, he was flirting. Typical, really. Though, the Doctor couldn't say he expected much less. He was Jack, afterall.
His brown gaze returned to the immortal man with still a somewhat defensive gaze and a short reply, his eyebrows furrowed in his intense stare. "Oh, you know, just passing through." He told him. But, then his irises shifted to the little profane alien. "Well! That is, of course, until your little friend here tried to make some mischief on our side of space." he told the Torchwood leader with an accusatory point of his finger and a small edge to his words. The Human Timelord peered on as the former con agent with a glare of seriousness. "You need to put that back where it belongs." The implications and dire necessity in his voice was evident, as he pointed his finger up towards space. "It can't be in Cardiff. Not now." Surely, Jack knew what would happen if the Greendal stayed near the rift for too long.
He ignored Jack's studying of him to focus on the bigger picture. He was smart. He could handle things from here. Him and Rose could leave, and yet... the man in the long black duster couldn't help but feel like, perhaps, the stuff of legend should stick around for a little longer to be sure the energy-absorbing monster didn't get away again or cause any more trouble. Or, that Jack wouldn't cause any more trouble. He didn't particularly like antagonizing Jack in front of his blonde-haired companion-turned-girlfriend, but he just couldn't help it. He had never particularly approved of Jack's ways of doing things, even if he did consider him a friend. And, his gut told him that Jack was more likely to get rid of the thing through... more extreme measures he wouldn't approve of.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Jack's voice and warm laughter was like music to Rose's ears. She felt a wave of relief wash over her. Still, there was an element of confusion behind that familiar voice, and as she pulled back, she could sense that he was uneasy by their presence. Like The Doctor, he seemed to know when something was amiss.
"You haven't changed a bit!" She laughed, grinning from ear to ear. Wow, how long had it been? On the one hand, it felt like a million years ago; on the other, it felt like only yesterday that they were traveling the universe together. "How is Torchwood?" She added curiously, looking to The Doctor.
He didn't seem as thrilled as Rose to see Jack, and Jack was looking at The Doctor with a perplexed look on his face. She gave The Doctor a look, wondering what his problem was. She felt immensely guilty for Jack's predicament, having been the reason for his immortality in the first place.
Standing to her feet, Rose gently cradled Jack's arm around his elbow, and held out her other hand to help him up. "What is going on with you two?" She asked them impatiently, before eyeing their new little alien friend. "Where does it belong?"
