There was nothing quite like looking at the night sky when one has the opportunity. One would think it would get boring after a while, getting to see it nearly all the time or any time they wish, but no, it never did. Why, because the sky always changed, always had new things, new stories to tell. You could look at the same night sky night after night, and it wouldn't tell the same story at all. Sure to the untrained eye it would look the same...ish. But to the trained eye, to the trained eye it would look definitely different, even if it was in the most minute of ways. The ever so subtle adjustment of a star, its glow level, a bit of gas movement, etc. That alone, would tell a completely different tale. Its journey unknown to the casual passerby. But to one who's lived so long, some of those changes could be known, and even then for someone so long lived, it also could still hide secrets and mystery even to them. That was the great thing about the grand fabric of the universe. Ever changing ever moving. Almost like a living thing.
Tree's poked at the open sky around like little feathery daggers reaching for those stars so far away. In a way, if one thought about it, with the colors dancing in ribbons, one could almost say the trees were painting the heavens above. And though it was dark out, it nearly didn't feel that way as the light from above came crashing down like a waterfall rippling on the ground below, against a white canvas of snow. In the distance, but not too far away, a lake glimmered, frozen in time. And beyond that stood a mountain of great birth. Ageless, yet somehow also aged, eyes watched on with wonder at the living painting as it came to life before them. A deep breath and a release later a small stream of steam came from a nose to meet the air in a twirling dance as it made its way from a squared, but wise face, to join the air of the night. Nothing seemed to stir in this landscape except the visitor. It was too cold for anything to be out. These were sometimes some of those little moments that they just had to remember to have. Moments of peace and quiet. Time to remember, to reflect on ones self. Something every living being needed from time to time.
Leaning against the TARDIS, The Doctor stared out over the landscape in silent wonder. This was what traveling was partially about. Enjoying the experience of the then and now. It didn't always have to be nearly dying or getting in trouble, no it could be just this too. Just a moment in paradise. A cold paradise, but a paradise none the less. Besides, he loved snow. It was magical. Often it meant Christmas. A holiday he knew was most notoriously spent by humans, but over the years, he'd come to enjoy it himself. Especially if it meant time with those he cared about. Sure food, exchanging gifts, and what not was also a part of it, but that wasn't what all that mattered to him. He preferred the more intimate aspects he could come to remember and cherish forever, even after those he loved were gone.
Arms crossed over his chest, he smiled at the scene before him. In his mind he already had a mental image etched into his brain to remember of this place. Honestly he could stay for hours and be back wherever he wanted really in time for tea, so long as the TARDIS behaved. Though he was certain she liked places like this too, because she didn't seem to object when he wanted to go to this place. At least he could handle the cold, that was the important thing. Companions on the other hand, well many of them couldn't possibly hold a candle to temps that he was standing in without layers upon layers of clothes. Granted he couldn't stand forever in it either, but he could last much longer than Earth humans could that was for sure. It also helped he had something hot to drink while he stood there too in his hand, even though his arms were crossed over his chest. Yep, this really was the life, the life of a renegade time lord who never wanted to grow up.

She woke and could not find her friend, not even when she called out for him however casually. Sarah went to the controls and turned on the monitor as easily as she'd turn the wipers on in her car. After all these years, and all the different TARDIS desktops she'd seen it was easy to identify the instrumentation she was used to. Granted, it always looked different, but in some ways it looked exactly the same. The screen snapped on and showed a sheen of bright white snow, crisp and glittering even in the low light. It clung to tree branches like a liberal coating of cake icing. It was night time wherever they had landed. She saw no footsteps leaving from the front door. The Doctor must still be near. From the Wardrobe she fetched her fur coat that she'd worn to the Arctic all those years ago. Sarah Jane would never wear fur again out in the real world but this jaunt didn't feel quite real, and no one would see her except her friend. Not even a bird to complain, she bet. It looked cold out there. As she pushed open the door, snow crunched. Ah. There he was. The Doctor's school-boy handsome face was softly lit from the warm light that spilled through the door. When she shut it, every erg of the dim light was nearly blue with the night and the cold. The tip Sarah Jane's nose went numb almost instantly, though the rest of her was warm. She went and leaned next to him, her arm to his, her back to that crazy blue box she loved so much. In solidarity, she silently looked up at the sky. She drew in a deep breath before letting it out in an 'ohhh'. Wherever they were, it was far away from any sort of civilization. Endless stars filled a black sky in bright points of light. It made her think of diamonds spilled on darkest velvet. She could even see a path that crossed the sky, looking something like a star strewn cloud but what she knew what must be the edge of whatever galaxy they were in. The mountain before them looked tall enough that one might be able to reach into that galaxy. Feeling quite content, Sarah Jane leaned a little more against the Doctor's arm and added a very small nudge of approval to go with that. the eleventh doctor

The Doctor gave a jovial half smile, looked at Sarah Jane, and then put a loving arm around her shoulders, holding her close to him in comfort. There they were, best friends, enjoying a night in peace. Who could ask for more right? Well except probably the most amazing view ever! He really had hoped she would enjoy it. It was a stretch definitely away from the usual shenanigans he did such as running from Daleks, or fighting Cybermen, or dealing with a backwards cultures, etc. This was special, and there was nothing quite like it for lightyears about them.
"There's going to be quite a show here in a few minutes if I got my timing correct. You know how the TARDIS is. Though, I don't even she would want you to miss this one for the whole universe." he said warmly. "All those stars...billions and billions of lightyears away, yet they seem so close you could almost just reach up, pluck them out of the sky, and hold it in your hands."
He did the motion with his free arm and pretended to act like he was grabbing one right out of the sky. When in all actuality, he grabbed a bug that was the equivalent of a firefly, but resilient enough to survive cold winters. It was a cheeky magic trick, but a clever one none the less. At least he thought. The thing stayed in his hand as he showed it to her. Gently cupping it as it glowed against their faces. It's blueish bulbous rear wiggling a bit as it stayed put.

It felt so perfectly familiar to have his arm around her. Absolutely capable of taking care of herself now, the Doctor's arms still felt like the safest place in the Universe. Not that there was much that could make Sarah Jane afraid anymore, but standing here so close to her best friend just poured all the tension out of her. Then, as was his want, he put on his own little show that she dare say would rival whatever the sky was about to show them. Poetry and magic. He'd always been very good at that, but this moment he outdid himself. Sure, it was just a bug, and sure, he'd only caught it. It was the when and the how though that mattered. Had he seen it coming before he started orating, or had it simply been luck? And with what grace he did so, not even startling the glowing sprite so that it stayed on his hand. Frankly, she was tickled, but she didn't laugh, not wanting to disturb their tiny blue guest. Instead Sarah Jane just gave him an incredibly fond smile from a handspan away. "Aren't stars just light, really? And the light has reached us. Part of them are billions of miles away, but part of the stars are right here and right now, with us. I can see stars in your eyes right now. Well," Now she flashed him a big grin . "And a bug."the eleventh doctor

"Heh, you've always been such a sweet talking charmer." he said gently with a chuckle as he watched the bug move about and wiggle over his palm.
There were more of them glowing bugs all about the area, darting and weaving about over the snow. So in some case it was a mixture of luck and just by chance seeing one floating nearby that he was able to create the trick in the first place. A few moments went by and the bug finally decided to take off and rejoin its others in flight over the white landscape.
"Alive and gone all at once. The truest essence of time travel without having to really go through time to see it. It comes to you instead." he said wistfully as he looked up at the stars and then at her again. "It seems the universe is reflecting in your own eyes tonight as well Sarah Jane."
Now it was his turn to sweet talk his friend. Two could play that game. And it was all in fun after all. He gave her a little snugging squeeze to show his good humored affections. Stars and humans weren't that different from each other in his mind. They burned bright sometimes and then would fade away eventually. However, much like tonight, one could see their brilliance before they were gone. Ghost of what was, but also what is. Beauty incarnate.
"I have warm drinks if you're interested." he stated. "And treats."
He didn't want to leave her unable to be warm or hungry. So he made warm apple cider and got some snack foods like biscuits from his kitchen in the TARDIS.

Sarah Jane gave him a bit of an elbow in the ribs for his tease. They both knew she rarely sweet talked anyone. She had more direct methods to get her way. To her surprise, he rather agreed with her about the starlight. He even put it into terms more exciting than hers. It was a way to time travel, for her to time travel in her way. That was something she missed when the Doctor was away. "Hmm!" She said, clearly pleased with herself, but a moment later she gave him a cluck of her tongue and looked away at his flattery. Still, Sarah Jane was smiling to herself at his words. Her gaze went back to the fairyland before her, the star glittered snow that softened every line and decorated all the silent trees. The dancing of the little glowing lights, such a warm color compared to the cool blue and shadow darks of the rest of the scene, made it entirely enchanting. "Thanks for making some nosh. Not yet though. It's too cold out here for me to take my hands out of my pockets. I'd like it to warm up with when we go back in though. Besides, I want you to be here when it starts. Whatever 'it' is." Then she had a thought. "Oh, Doctor." She gave him a wary glance. "Tell me the surprise isn't a whole bunch more of these bugs." A certain amount, like this, was charming. More would be a bit wild, but a whole lot more would be rather terrible. Galifreian aesthetics and human aesthetics did not always match. In fact, she was secretly a little concerned about the biscuits, but come what may, she'd eat at least one to supportive. the eleventh doctor

He gave an audible 'hmm' about her not wanting to eat or drink until they were back inside. It was fair enough. She didn't have to eat or drink just now. It had only been there in case she wanted to have something warm against her hands while she watched the spectacular sight they were about to see.
"Hah! No." he chuckled as he stared at the little glowing things floating about. "Even if they are something else on their own accord. No, what we are waiting to see is much, much more impressive. And it only comes so many years through here. And I would venture to say I chose exactly the right spot at just the right time for us to perfectly catch this enormously rare moment. You won't be let down Sarah Jane, I can guarantee you that! I'm sure of it. We just have to wait for the very....right..."
And then it began, "...moment..."
He grinned as his eyes flit to the sky, "Ah there it is...just as I thought, right on time. Isn't it beautiful?"
His voice was light and breathy over the whole awe of the moment. In the sky, strong colors began to dance across its horizon and like magic, little zipping sparks of light like short fireworks crossed over the colors in sparkling twinkles. Once there, then gone. But there were hundreds of them. This was what he wanted Sarah Jane to see. The meteor shower. Sure Earth had them, but why just Earth when you could get a chance to do this on another planet and enjoy its rare occurrences too. Plus it was the night sky from a different point of view. On top of that, the meteors took on the colors dancing in the sky slightly as they zipped through, tinted by its ghostly luminescence. So there was a lot to see.
The Doctor had also thought that maybe if there were any really large ones that did make it to the planets surface, they could look for one so he and Sarah Jane could get a souvenir maybe. It was just a thought. It would be up to Sarah Jane if she'd want to make the trek later. He looked at her, and the back at the sky to see what her reaction would be briefly.
