Oh thank the gods - River thought as she felt the Doctor leaning in towards her. It took her no time at all, to respond and happily meet his lips with her own. Quiet moments, like the one that had just passed. Could be so hard to get through. There were always a million things that she wanted to say. Fully knowing that half of them she shouldn't say and half of them she couldn't. And even if she did, would it even begin to describe what was true? Could she ever find the words to describe how she only really felt complete, when he was around? To herself, that just sounded needy and stupid. Several snarky remarks whirled in the back of her mind, with the voice of Kovarian. He wouldn't think that, and she knew it. But it didn't change the fact that that was what she thought of herself, for needing him.
Words were hard, even if you managed to find the right ones. Actions though, actions were far simpler. A look, a touch, a hand to hold. They could all hold so much meaning. And you could say so many things, with a kiss. Moving her lips against his, River's free hand crept up across his chest, to cup his face, wanting to hold on to him, as much as she wanted to hold onto the moment. If River had it her way, they would snog far more than they normally did. But she knew that her poor frail husband would turn beat red, if she did that, whenever she felt like it. As it was most of the moments of a day. Plus they wouldn't really be able to get anything done that way. Besides, it made these moments all the more special, that it was a rare occurrence. At least, rarer than she would like. Eyes closed in bliss, River heard her husband's sigh and felt his body relax as it left his body. She felt torn between worrying for why he had been so tense, happiness that she could help him relax, and the pleasure of being kissed. Only one thing could be pursued without having to speak, so she stuck to just enjoying the moment. She knew she would be scolding herself later if she cut it short anyway. Better to enjoy now and try to find out, if he was really so troubled, later. She 'replied' to his sigh with a pleased hum, refusing to be the one to pull away first. She had all the time in the world, and he had a time machine.

The Doctor stayed. He stayed and then he stayed some more. It was like an electric fence, but somehow it was the most pleasant state of being locked to something else ever. He didn't want to let go. The Doctor wanted to stay there for eternity if he could. Everything about her. Her touch, the smell of whatever she used to shampoo her hair with and her perfume, the taste against his lips. It all blended into one big happy mess. But as he let himself be lost in the mystery of her, he also knew at the back of his head eventually he would just have to let go so they could continue their little excursion. However, he was finding very hard to do so at this point. She was just that foxy. It was going to be quite a little fun war to see who'd stop first.
He'd caressed her face all the way up to those long very curly locks of hers, letting the sensation fill his memories. Good memories. It didn't take long to realize that he was not going to win this war of love. River was just that good. So inevitably he caved in, but not because for want but because it was necessary to if they were to get anywhere. Curse his logical sided brain. After finally breaking contact with his lips, and taking a deep breath from the intensity, he looked at her with wonder that was like the way someone gave during their very first kiss whether it was or not. It had a renewed sense of freshness.
"Glad you like the gift." he finally was able to get out gently and softly. His proximity to her was still close. He could feel the energetic heat between the two of them. The vibration of the air it created. It was intoxicating. Then he realized, they should be landing soon if they hadn't already, but there was a part of him that didn't want to tear his gaze away from River yet still. But he knew he would have to so he could read the instruments on his console. Either way his cheeks at least reached a slight rosy tone, as if he'd gotten a bit smashed and his body was showing the effects. And well in a sense he was, he was intoxicated with love and to be honest his mind was reeling and he didn't know what to do about it. River got him good, and it showed.

The only downside to time travel.. well, one of the few downsides. Was that, the moments you wanted to last, passed you by, just as fast as ones you barely noticed. And there was nothing you could do about it. For as many opportunities and powers as time travel could give you. There were just as many things, that you were absolutely powerless against. If it was at all possible to slow down time, at will, River surely would have figured out how to do that, by now. Anything to let the both of them, keep these small, happy, moments of happiness. Where they just got to be, without any doom hanging over their heads or companions groaning about how uncomfortable their kissing makes them feel. River didn't really care if they had an audience, but it was always nicer when it was just the two of them.
When they finally parted, River again cursed the moment, for passing so quickly. She met his eyes, with a look filled with warmth and tenderness. His comment made her smile, "The gift was very nice too" Her thumb caressed his chin softly before she let her hand fall down by her side. Then his cheeks turned a slight shade of pink and River couldn't help but grin a little wider. Some things never changed. As much as River wanted to see where The Doctor wanted to take her, she was at least just as tempted, to just stay here with him. Getting to spend some 1 on 1 time, with her husband, was always very tempting. But so was dancing and adventures. River didn't mind them taking their time to get to their location, it just meant she would have more time with him. Which was all she was really after.
