'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose couldn't believe it. Here she was again. Earth. Original Earth. Rose Tyler was home.
Everything was the same. Well, almost. There were a few obvious changes -- a different prime minister, various celebrities had come and gone, and there were things in 'Pete's World' that hadn't been invented yet.
She'd be lying to herself if she said she hadn't missed it. London as she'd always known it; her old neighbourhood, her old flat, the possibility of seeing The Doctor again. Yet every time this thought occurred to her, she'd feel a terrible sense of guilt. She still had The Doctor -- he was back home, their home, probably wondering where the hell she was. They were building a life together, they were happy.
So why did she still yearn to see The Doctor? This Doctor.
Rose had tried to get back to Pete's World; her first thought had been Torchwood, but she'd been unable to locate them, and any leads she had to The Doctor had come back zilch. Finding The Doctor wasn't just because she'd love to see him. Rose being back meant trouble. Travelling between dimensions was meant to be impossible, but somehow, yet again, she'd fallen through a crack. There was a rift, ripping through the fabric of reality and if too many came through, this entire universe would cease to exist and everything would collapse. So, yeah. No biggie.
But everything was fine. Rose was people watching in her favourite café. They did the BEST hot chocolate with marshmallows, not to mention the chips. She'd found herself comfort eating, watching people laugh and walk, and oh -- Christmas shop. Oxford Street was packed this time of year. It made the entire situation ten times worse. There was a wonderful buzz in the air -- people were anticipating Christmas Day -- the food, the presents, the family time. And here she was, sat eating chips and watching the world go by.
Quickly wiping a stray tear from her eyes, Rose ran a hand through her long blonde hair and tried to think of her next move. She had to get back. She just had to.

He had been so many places again and again, but going back to one particular old haunt hadn't been one of them for a while. Not since last face or prior. Partially it was cause there was no one there in that specific area anymore that he really knew to visit. The other reason was because...well...going back sometimes was still so hard. Memories often would bubble to the surface of a time long past and as stories went, he didn't like stories that had already ended. It hurt sometimes too much to revisit and relive. Why, because he could almost see them like he was living them all over again. However, it was inevitable that one day he would eventually find himself going back to a place he'd once been. Even in all the universe, and all of time and space, there was just always that one in a billionth of a chance he'd reconnect with a place he'd been before. This chance just seemed to be one of them. Also, it didn't help that he was a sucker for fuel up areas, and this was still one he seemed to be able to still tap into. So while he waited, he supposed taking a tour with a new set of eyes probably wouldn't be so bad, and if it did get hard, he could take it slow and easy. it was winter, which meant holiday time. It was noticeable by the decor and what not as people made their way to shop for their usual that time of year things they did, things like gifts, decorations, that new wreath, and tree sort of stuffs. All things that this face most dearly enjoyed. Especially the smells of the winter time. The frost of cold air and snow (when it did snow of course). The smell of baked goods and spice. Even newly wrapped gifts had a scent. That somewhat alleviated the more gloom feels that he'd thought would linger with him. He was a new man, new face, he had to give himself a chance to be free to feel something good. Adjusting his bowtie and long coat, he made his way to go take on the town. He'd get lost in the throng and enjoy the scenery. And as he had walked, it had started to feel good. It had started to feel so new and fun again to him that he'd not even thought about the fact that he'd have gone to one of the same places Rose had used to haunt. She was gone after all, so why would he think even the slightest thought she'd actually be there. he wouldn't. So naturally feeling a little nostalgic, he decided to go in and get himself something to drink to go so he could keep enjoying the energy that was the out and about folks. Cafe's tended to have that option after all. He walked inside and pulled a simple hat off. Wearing a top hat in this day and age would have seemed just a bit too out of place, so he had to suffice for something a little more contemporary of the time. He would have wore a fez, because that would have seemed quite festive on its own, but he didn't want to lose a fez over it. Finding the counter not occupied at the moment by customers, he went right up and asked for a mint flavored hot chocolate. There was nothing wrong with satisfying two parts of a sweet tooth after all. Peppermint in a hot chocolate was the best way to go about it around a holiday, it was almost criminal if it wasn't possible. He'd have had to go to United States if it hadn't been there since the US seemed to have things his typical home stops didn't have. Luckily, he got his hot chocolate with a lid and straw to go eventually. He'd not even noticed Rose sitting, watching the passerby's while he'd waited, it hadn't crossed his mind to look. However, when he was finally able to leave and he was taking a deep sip of his drink his bright eyes caught sight of her, transfixed, and was that her's catching sight of him? No, that couldn't be, she had to be some either hallucination or really good doppelgänger. Either way, it made The Doctors hearts race a moment as he stood there a second dumb founded. Like a deer in the headlights he didn't know what to do. All he knew was he could feel that electricity between him and her as there was something. Maybe he could hope she was just taking a glance around the room and not specifically him, but he doubted it somehow. Something told him that she was seeing right through him like tissue paper. it felt somehow unsettling and exciting all at once. How could a stranger that looked like Rose do that to him? It had to be impossible! It just had too. He then tried to make sure the moment only last a few seconds, even though it felt like holding onto a wire, as if to play off he'd just stood a moment to take a drink. And then just as smoothly, or at least he thought, tried to walk away with his drink, oh and an extra bag of biscuits he thought he might like that were seasonal. He had forgotten to put his hat on over his long emo like locks even. Yet his exit probably wasn't as smooth as it could have been, even he began to believe he'd rushed too quickly out of there not to be noticed. Nice going, way to make yourself suspicious, the last thing you need right now is having a little tag along asking silly questions. it wasn't her, it couldn't have been, he stated in his mind trying to convince himself he was just seeing things. It's nostalgia...that's all. Stop guilting yourself, that life is over now, move on.But he couldn't move on, the image was burning at his mind like a photograph. All he could do was just try and walk away, maybe get lost in the crowd as he drank his hot chocolate. However, deep down there was a part of him that wished...wished so hard. Rose Tyler

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you A heartbeat. Just one heartbeat. That's all it'd had taken for Rose's world to change. She'd been running her hands through her hair, defeated and lost, when suddenly she'd locked eyes with a stranger across the room. It'd hit her like a bolt lightning. He was so frighteningly familiar, so very wonderful that it took her by surprise. Who was he? He couldn't be who she thought he was... Could he?
Maybe she was imagining it, but there was something in his reaction that made her feel... What was that word? Excited? At home? He'd definitely felt it too, whatever it was, but there was an element of fear in his face as well, and the deepest shock.
The entire moment lasted little more than a second, but it'd been enough for Rose to realise she needed to follow him. He'd tried his best to act casual, hastily taking a sip of his drink and stumbling out of the café, hat all lopsided and long limbs flying in all directions. Grabbing her hot chocolate, Rose hurried after him; she could just about see his hat bobbing amongst the crowd, but he was walking fast, and before long he was just another head amongst the other hats and beanies.
Rose broke out into a run, weaving between the shoppers, bumping into a few and apologising quickly, but never breaking eye contact, never looking away. Afraid that if she looked away, he'd disappear forever. Just like he had before.
"Wait!" She cried out in desperation. There was a definite stitch in her side, and her hot chocolate was spilling over the sides. "Oi, mate!" Was he slowing down or was she catching up? Rose skidded to a halt, keeping a significant distance but making sure he was aware of her presence. Her eyes were very bright as she caught her breath, staring at the back of his head and wondering, hoping, desperately wishing. "Do I know you?"

Oh he forgot how fast she was. Good to know she never seemed to slow down. In fact, he wondered if she sped up in run since him last seeing her. A part of him didn't want to stop. He just wanted to keep going and not have to think about it. She was his past, a part of him that had come and gone. Yet there was that deep seeded part of him that just couldn't seem to let go still of that remanence of himself that was sand shoes. Bollocks! Of course his hearts still had to win over that Time Lord brain of his. However, he wasn't fully the same man he'd been in that tall lanky side burned face's state. He was him now, which to a normal individual was difficult to probably understand, but to him and maybe a few that were a around him, knew what that sort of meant.
After he stopped he took a deep sip of his drink and then just sighed. This was going to be hard. Very, very hard. He finally turned around on a heel and looked at her intensely with a knowing look.
"Who me?" he asked casually. "I highly doubt it."
It was true, she'd never met this face. So she didn't know him. She knew him in the sense of him being The Doctor, but not as who he had become. He was not the same Doctor she'd fallen in love with. She'd had hard enough time accepting him during that first time he changed since coming back after the Time War. He wasn't sure how she'd take him changing again. Plus, he'd sent her off to live with his Meta self. He'd hoped she'd have become very happy there with him. Showed him how to be a better human with a Gallifreyan mind.
"At least...not this face anyway." he continued after a few seconds of pause. He could have blown her off, could have just not dealt with it, but this was Rose, and her being there meant trouble...somehow. Rose wasn't supposed to be there. She was supposed to be in Pete's world. Being as his last face would say...brilliant...there. He gave a very small quirk of a smile at the side of his lips. His cup was still grasped in both hands close to his face. He took another sip as if the chocolate could relieve the hearts that were racing in his chest.

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you To Rose's relief, he stopped and allowed Rose to catch her breath. He didn't turn to face her though, at least not immediately and Rose thought she heard him sigh. He seemed to be buying his time, perhaps wondering whether to admit to what Rose knew already. If she hadn't been sure before, she was sure now. The way he was acting was enough confirmation.
This was The Doctor.
His voice took her by surprise. It was light and casual, and maybe even a little posh. He was a lot more flamboyant than she'd expected, though in truth Rose wasn't really sure what she'd expected. She furrowed her brow a little as he shrugged it off, and for a moment she wondered whether she was going to have to pry it out of him. But then he spoke again and Rose's breath hitched in her throat.
"It's you," she breathed. Rose stood, rooted on the spot, heart racing. It was The Doctor, standing sipping hot chocolate and flashing a little knowing smile her way. Very slowly, she took a couple of steps toward him and allowed her eyes to drink in his face.
He was still tall, she noted and he still had the good head of hair. He was younger though, and somehow more childlike than before. Rose's hazel eyes grew large as she tried to memorise every inch of him. She wondered if she'd aged, and if The Doctor would mind seeing the time on her face. He was never very good at goodbyes, and truth be told, neither was she.
"Doctor?" She asked, a crease appearing between her eyebrows. She was right in front of him now, and very gently, rested a hand upon his chest. She had to make sure he was real, that this wasn't some trick to lower down her guard. The fact that she was here was dangerous, and there was no telling who was here, or who might be watching.

"Hello...Rose Tyler." he stated just as warmly as he'd had faces before. It was that sort of warm as if he'd not changed at all. Yet it felt different enough to know that this face was another person all together, well except for the core bits that made up him. He took a deep intake of breathe when she touched his chest. There was still some love left in his hearts for her, there always would be. Things were just different now. He was different now, again. But he knew that she belonged back in Pete's World, with him, that meta crisis self of his. That twinged a part of him to wonder how that was honestly going along deep down inside. If things were working out for them.
"It's me." he said a light smile on his features and touched his hand to hers that was touching him. The world could have stopped all together right then like a freeze frame and he wouldn't have cared. This moment was a one in a billion...no trillion...oh who the hell was he kidding! It was as rare as the universe was old. "I should be sayin' it's really you. Look at you. You look just the same as I left you. Nothings really changed."
Even if Rose might have been at the end of her prime, he would have probably still flattered her with the same statement. It was just the way he was. How ironic it was for them to meet in a place like this at a time like this. it almost seemed too good to be true, which by her being there it really kind of was, but at the same time, it was still sort of magical in a sense. He was between wanting to keep her there and helping to make sure she got back home to her universe all at once. It dredged up all those old memories and feelings. The memories never vanished, even if the body had. He knew it had been a lifetime ago, but yet. Like a reincarnated soul, it was like he was still that man before. So it was very conflicting, yet very much something he wanted all at once. And although she probably was going to expect him to be maybe upset or angry or something, him assuming it might have been her fault that she was not where she was supposed to be...instead all he did was draw her towards himself with one free arm to give her a big hug.
There was no point in assuming anything at all. As was, he had this strange feeling in his gut that she might have not know or was scared about the situation. The last thing he wanted to come off as was her thinking he'd stopped caring about her. Stopped thinking about her. Because none of that was true. Yes he'd been able to move on since, he'd found time to heal from it. But that had not stopped him one bit from caring.

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose felt The Doctor take a sharp intake of breath as she rested a hand upon his chest. He spoke to her as warmly as he ever had, and for a moment, she saw his past faces flash up in front of her eyes. It was as though she was seeing him all at once. But there was something else there as well – a sadness, perhaps? That he knew their time together had passed, and she knew it too. Once upon a time, she’d believed it would last forever.
While The Doctor inhaled, Rose exhaled, letting a little laugh escape her lips as he spoke softly to her, and placed his hand upon her own. For a moment, it was just the two of them. Rose had tried for so many years to put him away. But he was always there, running around in the back of her mind like he used to run around the TARDIS. It wasn’t that she didn’t love the human-hybrid version of The Doctor – on the contrary, she loved him more than anything. It was just that she loved this Doctor too. They’d been one and the same at first, but of course he’d moved in a different direction and become the man he was now.
”Shut up,” she laughed, knowing full well she wasn’t as youthful as she’d once been. But it was sweet that he was still reassuring her. This must be tough for him, she realised. He’d always had a fear of watching his friends wither and die, and she felt guilty for showing him any sign of age. ”You don’t look too bad yourself.”
The Doctor seemed to be having some internal battle with himself; he was looking at her in a fond sort of way, but Rose couldn’t quite make out what he was thinking. Then, without warning, he pulled her into a hug and suddenly, Rose was in his arms again. She raised her arms instinctively, flinging them around his neck and holding him close. There were too many things to say, and so instead, she put her feelings into that embrace. Burying her head into his shoulder, she closed her eyes and smiled. ”I’ve missed you,” she told him.

"Oh I dunno I'd say I've gotten a bit wiser in my age. May not look it on the outside, but I sure can feel it on the inside." he stated, still holding onto her. There was definitely parts of him on the inside that felt it. Not physically, not in a sense like a mortal would understand, it was deeper, more like sub consciously feeling all his regenerations before him, like some sort of echo. But holding onto Rose, it made some of that mental exhaustion sort of fade away into the nothing.
"I missed you too." he said softly. "So very much."
He knew her being there was wrong, so very wrong, but more and more he was not caring. So what if for some short amount of time she was there. So what? He could find a way for her to get back, would find a way for her too. Whatever it took. Anything for a companion, a friend. He loved her deeply. And he would do anything for those past faces who loved her in ways he didn't believe he could again. He held her there for a few good long moments before pulling back only just a bit, enough to look at her face. Not enough to let go.
"How did you get here?" he asked. He didn't want to have to ask, but he had too anyway. He put one hand on her face, "Dimension travel is virtually impossible, especially without a TARDIS. You and I both know that. As glad as i am to see you."
It was unfortunate he had to drop that shoe of info on her, but he couldn't mince words or time. Or could he? Could a part of him be selfish for one night?

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose laughed into his shoulder, hugging him so tight, her own arms began to ache. But she didn't care. Rose just wanted to hold him as tight as she could, for as long as she could. "Tell me about it," she chuckled.
While it hadn't been decades for Rose, enough time had passed for her to feel different. She was a little less naïve these days, and a little wiser. She recognised her own immaturity now. Still, not everything had changed. Rose was still as impulsive and stubborn as ever, and her heart would forever rule her head. That was something that would be with her until the day she died.
She smiled and felt a tear roll down her cheek. Rose could hear the emotion behind The Doctor's voice, and relief washed over her. He still remembered her, and what was more, he still cared. It was all she'd wanted. He was and still was, her life. To think he would someday forget her and their time together broke her heart more than she could ever admit.
After several long moments, The Doctor drew back ever so slightly and Rose did the same, allowing the small space to look into his face again. He did look young. But there was pain in those eyes, years of hardship and heartache that would never leave him, no matter the regeneration.
Rose closed her eyes at his touch as he gently cupped her face. She leaned into it, knowing it was selfish to want this, but unable to let him go. She smiled, knowing what he meant. "Honestly? I... I don't know." She knew it wasn't the answer he'd hope for, but there wasn't really much to go on. She thought hard for a moment.
"Do you remember when we got transported to that game station? Bad Wolf?" Rose smiled a little at the memory. It'd been traumatic to say the least, but it was a reminder of old times. "It felt like that. I was... I was being pulled out of my world, and into this one." She looked up at him, suddenly worried. "Someone is behind this, aren't they?"

A dead end Of course it was. It always was. A dead end were there were circles to be ran until one went crazy or found out the answer after a long grueling migraine. Yet, the pursuit of the answers would happen any. Why, because The Doctor was a stubborn man at his core. He just couldn't leave it aloe until it was poked to death ragged and unrecognizable. Especially this face, he couldn't just leave things unknown. He hated things being left unknown. If he couldn't find the answers it would drive him batty.
"Oh." he stated finding the answer she gave unsurprising, but leaving him deflated a bit. Not about her, but about the fact it's not an easy answer. But he still left a light, but weary smile on his face to try and express some form of hope. His mind started to think of the possibilities of who could do even such a powerful thing as far as ripping through dimensions like that when not even the TARDIS could do it safely in most points.
"Well, it is possible." he mused. "But I won't leave out the possibility of something also natural as well. But if there is someone behind it, we'll figure out who it is and get you back home. I promise. Like old times eh?"

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose always hated disappointing The Doctor. Not in a student/teacher kind of way, but she liked to think she saw things from a human perspective. During their adventures, she’d notice things that The Doctor didn’t, things that were staring them right in the face. The Doctor’s mind was so complex, so out of this world – literally – that he tended to miss the simplest solutions. The things that made all the difference.
That’s where Rose came in. Together, they’d saved planets and civilisations and it had been a team effort. The Doctor was normally the brains behind the operation, but Rose had been the heart, and she couldn’t help but feel guilty as the The Doctor looked resigned. She knew he’d been hoping for some kind of lead.
But, ever The Doctor, he was a man of hope. Above all else, he never gave up. He always took a stand, and always did the right thing. Even if it meant making himself miserable in the process. ”I’m sorry,” she told him, but returned the same weary smile. ”But we’ll figure it out together, yeah?”
Rose couldn’t deny that going on one last adventure with him excited her more than she cared to admit. As if reading her mind, she nodded in response, and her smile widened. ”Just like old times.” She didn’t want to pull away from him, but hitched in a breath and attempted to return to reality.
For the past few minutes, they’d been in a sort of bubble, separate from the rest of the world. ”Where should we start?” Rose’s brow furrowed, thinking. ”Do you still have those 3D glasses? The ones that showed the void stuff?” She glanced to his suit, and grinned. ”I don’t think I even want to know what’s in those pockets these days.” This regeneration was a lot more eccentric than the last, and Rose imagined he’d carry around the most random objects.

He could have stayed there with Rose forever he was sure, but at the same time he couldn't and he knew it. In his mind he tried to imagine the moment like a snow globe snapshot. That way he could keep the memory forever. The question of where they should start had already started buzzing through his mind. There probably were a few options, but one of the most logical was to evaluate where she seemed to come through first. Then he could probably trace how it got there and where it came from, that sort of thing.
"Well..." he began. "I do have then, yes. Now whether I have them on hand on the other hand is questionable."
He had to let her go completely to check out his pockets. He pulled out thing after thing, asking Rose to hold then just for a moment while he looked. How he kept so many things in his pocket was nearly similar to the magic the TARDIS carried. Everything from a yoyo to a rubber duck, some candy of sorts, a random bit of fluff, and even a lucky rabbits foot. But sadly no 3D glasses.
"Ahhh, damn." he said stuffing all the random things back into his pockets. "It looks like I left those back on the TARDIS. Very unlike me. Suppose though I wasn't expecting to run into any anomalies as of late though either."
He gave her a sheepish cute boy sort of stare.
"Guess I-...I mean we...will have to go back to the TARDIS and perhaps fetch them before we get started." he thumbed in the direction of the TARDIS. "Nind you though, she doesn't look anything near like what you remember at all. We've...both gone through some pretty extensive changes you could say."
He gave that classic look though he gave both as nine and as ten when first asked her to join him each time to travel with him per face. This time though it was only just for this one venture.
"How 'bout it?" he asked a small half grin on his face. A part of him still had that sort of giddy feeling inside like had the first times he took her away somewhere. Getting to show of his ol girl like he was some childish five year old showing their toys off to their friend from school.

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose chuckled. Of course, he still had the glasses. He kept everything. The TARDIS was limitless – or at least, that was how it seemed, so Rose wasn’t surprised. She wondered if her old room was still there, maybe archived in The TARDIS mainframe. Mum had been the same, keeping all Dad’s things and unfinished plans.
At last, they broke apart completely and Rose watched as The Doctor patted down his pockets. She quickly brought up her hands, as The Doctor dropped object after object onto her palms. He gave her a sheepish sort of stare, making Rose grin. ”Ah, well. At least you have the yoyo. That should come in handy,” she teased. He was cute. Different to how she remembered, of course. But still cute.
”I would love that,” she replied, a little too quickly. She’d missed The TARDIS. Not as much as the man himself, but close enough. She’d been as much part of their adventures, as anything else. ”I mean – if you’re sure you don’t mind.” Rose wasn’t sure why he’d mind, but she still felt she should make sure. She didn’t want to intrude on his life, not if he didn’t want her too.
But then, he gave her that look. It was a look she’d seen him do in both regenerations, and now with this one too. It was always the same, no matter the face. That excitement, that anticipation. They were about to embark on a new journey, just the two of them. Rose battled with herself for a second, before she took his hand and gazed up at The Doctor with the same, wonder-like expression she’d always given. ”Where’s she parked?”

He gave a broad smile and began to walk with her, his hand in hers like old times. The scenery around them would not suggest anything was amiss. Only Rose and her outfit gave away any sense of strange and different. And somehow that never seemed bother people somehow. Or at least they would never say such anyway. It only seemed a few people might have stared at them both, but he never cared really. After all their lives would be so fleetingly passing to the strangers around them, that by the time they'd pass and have gone, the simple humans of that time would have shook it off as probably either weird or just nonsense and forget about it.
But walking together in the snow though, was sort of magical still too. It had an almost electrifying nature in the air. Something that even coursed down levels hairs, into his head, and down his body almost as if it could pass from him to Rose in an exchange of thrill and excitement, as well a let it pass down into his feet to the ground just to give him that extra umph of step. A part of him wanted to stay out in the magical snowy bustle, but alas, they'd reach the TARDIS soon. However, he soaked up every moment as they walked until then. He had to ask the question of how things were back in Pete's world.
"How are things?" he asked, referring to Pete's world, as they walked along. "Ya know, back there. Doing alright?"

'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you The Doctor smiled broadly at Rose, and Rose beamed back, feeling that familiar sense of contentment. The Doctor, for all his excitement, had always brought Rose an element of peace. As though she was exactly where she was supposed to be, with exactly who she was meant to be with. The stars had aligned.
Rose supposed she should’ve been frightened, with the entire universe at stake, but for some reason, the universe seemed to be behaving itself. There was nothing untoward as they walked the snowy streets, apart from Rose herself, but the locals merely shrugged off her bizarre clothing and went along their way. In fact, this leisurely stroll was like something out of a novel. It was picturesque and was made all the better by the Time Lord beside her.
Rose never thought she’d be hand in hand with this Doctor again. She’d believed watching The TARDIS disappear on that beach would be the last time they’d ever lay eyes on each other. Yet, here they were. Sure, the Doctor’s eyes were different now, but it was still the same man underneath. Rose walked slow, wanting to walk through these peaceful streets with The Doctor forever.
The mention of Peter’s World made her stiffen slightly and Rose felt a wave of guilt as she thought of the man she’d left at home. The man who was the same as the one beside her, and yet, completely different. ”It’s good,” she replied, though her voice was a little strained. Rose wasn’t sure how to speak about it. Should she mention The Doctor? The one she’d built a life with, the one she shared a house with?
”Tony is growing up fast,” she started, deciding to play it safe, for now. ”My brother. It’s a shame you two never got a chance to meet. I think you would like him. He’s a little rebellious firecracker. I’m still working for Torchwood with… Well, with you.” She glanced up at him, trying to work out whatever it was The Doctor was feeling inside.
