More important, can you stop it?Jack’s question echoed in the Doctor’s mind even as he answered. „Not till I know what it's doing. Touch the wrong bit, blow up the solar system.“ Which was true, this kind of meddling was immensely dangerous. Using the TARDIS’ power and abilities to move her through time and space was one thing, but turning them outside like the Master had obviously done, that was something else entirely. As far as he knew, the whole thing might blow up the solar system as soon as the gage hit the red zone. Still, he doubted it. The Master was very clever and would have known what he was doing. It was a strange thing to say, but the Doctor trusted him in that regard. Still, whatever the Master’s plan was, it needed to be stopped, and quick. Somehow, they needed to convince him to stop, or at least give them enough information so they could do it themselves. As much as the Doctor loathed to, he would have to … The Doctor had started to straighten up, and his eyes fixed on the gage again. His beautiful TARDIS cannibalized and turned into who knew what - considering who’d done it a weapon, most likely, it was so WRONG. He could still feel her, but changed, corrupted, troubled. In a flash, he made up his mind. There were really very few options available, none of them good. You just had to pick one and hope for the best. „Martha, find your family. Go! Jack, I need that vortex manipulator. And do me a favor and keep a look out at the door. This is bound to set up some alarm real quick. Unless he’s stupid, which he is not.“ Even as he said it, the Doctor got out his screwdriver and started splicing into one of the cables running out of that dreadful metal case that now enclosed what once was the control section of his TARDIS.

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ For the moment, everything was perfect. Humans bustled about, getting ready for the broadcast. Casually, the Master sat back in his chair. Taking out a bag of jelly babies from his inner pocket, he popped one in his mouth. Whether by a whim or true affection- he likely could not have answered himself if he were a more honest man, unable to place whether he liked the human or was simply using her- he held out the bag. "Jelly baby?" Her saccharine smile went ignored even as she accepted one. Instead, he recalled older times and another man who had held a penchant for them.
Had he become nostalgic or simply impatient? He couldn't tell beyond the loudness of his mind. Noise beat against his mind like a drum in a rhythmic manner. It was louder than it had ever been, impossible to drown out or ignore as it had once been. It didn't particularly help that everyone seemed to be so particularly slow. The Doctor had yet to show himself and, as much as he enjoyed things going his way, things grew dull when they only went his way.
Even madness could not keep him from noticing the change. A multitude of possibilities were within his grasp, all of them clear as day. Yet, in a moment, he recognized an oddity, as if they'd strayed from the right path. A paradox. There were only a select amount of people who could have done such a thing, humans too stupid to realize what they could change in their lives.
How utterly fascinating. He'd always known the Doctor couldn't help himself. How could he when they were so alike? He knew it better than anyone else, seeing beyond the lies and masks.
Of course, something needed to be done, the broadcast suddenly quite unimportant. It could be put off. His plan was airtight- 98% perfect- and as a result it was only natural that the Doctor's presence would not go unnoticed. Almost immediately, an alarm went off. Some of the humans looked around, wide-eyed. A wide smile crossed his face, easily making the time lord stick out for such a peculiar reaction. Pocketing the bag, he held a hand out to Lucy to help her to her feet. Meanwhile, the guards in place began ushering people out.
"Now, now," he drawled, a bounce in his step as he approached the head of security, "Don't keep all the secrets to yourself." The answer was exactly as he expected. Though far more vague because others weren't supposed to know, it was made clear that a section that was off limits had intruders. Giving an absentminded hum, he clapped his hands together, his grin bordering on mad. "Well then, we best check it out." His expression seemed to become a bit more sane as he glanced to Lucy. "Perhaps you could go with the others, darling? I would hate if something happened to you." Lucy seemed to be happy with the words and listened. For once, the Master found he wasn't entirely lying.
With that said and done, they quickly began heading down to where the TARDIS was, the Master's mind quickly moving on how to approach the situation. Things would be different as the Doctor was no doubt meddling. Moreover, who knew what this little paradox of his would do.

Of course before Jack could get too far after being barked at to get the manipulator and what not, just merely only steps away, an alarm literally had gone off on them all. His eyes roving in a search of the area just in case, he gave a quick glance over at The Doctor. "I swear I did nothing! Not my fault!" he stated, his eyes flicking from The Doctor to the entry. "Guess that means you better get a move on Doctor."Of course Jack was going to make quick work of getting The Doctor the vortex manipulator. Even if he knew that by giving it to the time lord they might be blowing any chance of them escaping this fiasco alive if they failed. He wasn't dumb, he gathered very quickly that the man they'd met at the end of the universe was mad beyond repair. And that this was the fruits of that mad psycho's labors. So if he knew that this guy could pull off this, he was sure he didn't want to even know what he could possibly do to any of them if they failed in this. The sheer thought sent chills down Jacks spine. Sure he couldn't die, not really, but that was even worse. It meant he could never escape the nut job. Sure neither really could the Doctor probably, but still. And he didn't want to think of what could happen to Martha. Martha was nice, and she was perfectly human. Which meant there was unspeakable truths to a possible end for her if things didn't go right. All these things whizzed about in Jacks mind and all it did was partially make him feel nauseous as well as fired up ready to take on the universe all at the same time. "Don't make me regret this..." he commented about the manipulator. He gave that look of 'cause if you do I swear I'll never let you forget it'. The Tenth Doctor The Master

„If this doesn’t work, I doubt you’ll get the chance.“ The Doctor murmured as he tore away the last of the insulation and spread the wires far enough to get a good reading. What he did not say was the deep gratitude that Jack went along with the plan, without so much as a question. But Jack was a soldier at heart, and he would know that sometimes even hopeless battles needed to he fought. Whatever the Master’s plan, if he needed something as powerful as the TARDIS to accomplish - and even the Master would not destroy this beautiful machine unless he had to - then he needed to be stopped at all costs. Now, with a little more information and time it might be possible to come up with a less dangerous and plainly desperate solution, but as it was, the only thing he could think of was fighting fire with fire. Either it worked, and they could move on to getting everyone out. (The Doctor was making another blind leap of faith here, trusting in Martha to find her family and get them back here in time.) Or it didn’t work and .. well, knowing the Master he wasn’t sure whether anyone would be able to do anything ever again. It should work. If he managed to do it in time. Reaching out almost blindly, his eyes still on the cable wires, the Doctor accepted the Vortex Manipulator from Jack. „And before you ask, I should be able to repair it later.“ With that, he quickly popped open the casing and started carefully splicing contacts into the exposed cable’s wires. Now, this was going to be fiddly. The first ones were simple. Those strands carry the main power were easy to identify and hook up. This small vortex manipulator was getting a major upgrade in effectiveness. Of course, it would burn out almost immediately when the TARDIS’ engines started creating the paradox and the cable’s feedback activated the Doctor’s hoped-to-be countermeasure. The tricky part were the signal wires, which required careful measurements, and a good deal of mental calculations to predict the temporal effects. And all the while, he was still feeling the TARDIS’ distress; not the best circumstances for delicate work. Jack HarknessThe Master

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ One. Two. Three. Four.
A steady beat thrummed within the Master's mind, echoing against his head like a drum beat. Louder than it had likely ever been in all his years, it made it difficult to think and left the time lord single-minded. His goal was straight forward. He simply had to go to where the paradox machine was. Notions like getting rid of those around him were inconsequential, thoughts for another time. His plan could be shifted as it went. To some extent, it already had to be. After all, the Doctor was already making changes.
A paradox within a paradox. He was morbidly curious as to the effect it would have. Did the Doctor even realize what he was doing? Or perhaps he did. He was hardly as innocent as he liked to act. Blood stained those hands, far more than he liked to admit.
The Master couldn't help but be excited about where this would lead. If he were to be outplayed, he would love nothing more than to see it done with chaos.
His strides were long as the group began to head to where the TARDIS was, uncaring of whether the humans around him could keep up. They were inconsequential after all and as useless as they always were. No, if anything were to be done it was to happen by his hand. Only the Master would be capable of stopping whatever the Doctor had up his sleeve, but he would have to get there first.
A corner and then a hallway. Soon enough the blue box was in sight.

Helping to keep watch, Jack kept a keen eye on everything that The Doctor was unable to keep track of because he back was exposed to possible attack while working. He knew that The Doctor was going to need time, so, to keep out of The Doctor's hair he made himself useful. In hind sight it probably was a good thing. Why? Because the moment he exited the TARDIS he could hear the sound of foot steps, and man they were very rhythmic in their own right. The murder floof knew. Oh he knew, and Jack knew by the footsteps it was him. He couldn't quite understand the axe that The Master insisted on grinding with The Doctor, but boy it sure was one. Granted, Jack was coming to understand that there were a lot of beings out there, none the less himself he was certain some days, that probably at least wanted to take some pot shots at him. But at least Jack wasn't on the dark side of the force end of the spectrum. The cake might have been a lie, but the cookies on the dark side were dry as well too. Jack Harkness was a man on his own merit and accord. He had no intention of telling The Doctor that the psycho man that made him think of Jack Torance from The Shining was about to try and possibly go "Here's Johnny!" to The Doctor himself there in just a matter of moments. No, Jack had to think of something. Keep the nutjob away from The Doctor so he could finish his work.
Deep down inside, the immortal man knew that this was probably going to be ouch time for him. Big time. Oh the Doctor was going to so owe him for this if they got out of this situation in one piece still without a hitch or hiccup. Jack made himself steadfast and read to do whatever it took to keep that man from going anywhere. And there were plenty of ways he thought of stopping him. Some of which he knew would probably haunt him in ways he didn't want to be for the rest of his immortality. And no it wasn't what most people's minds would go to. Gods the lengths Jack would go to keep The Doctors backside out of the fire. Luckily he'd start at the easier parts of his list, and hope to the universe he'd not have to reach the more unsavory ends to a means. Either way, his features were ready to attack if need be. he'd try and hold him off as long as possible. And even though he was scared like everything inside, he held the most cheese crack one sided grin on his face, trying to give off more confidence than he actually probably had.'
"Bring it on...Saxy..." he muttered to himself.

As he worked, the Doctor occasionally glanced over at the gage set against the cage which encased what had formerly been the console. It moved slower than he had feared, but it did move. After a short while, he had figured out roughly how fast the hand moved and was doing some calculations in his head. Trying to keep track of how many seconds might be left before the whole system went critical. You had to give it to the Master. He never just set things up with just a switch that you could flip and call it a day. No, somehow trying to make nothing happen turned out one heck of a lot of work; a lot of work and a gamble, frankly. As he worked, the task became more and more complicated by the second. That he was basically trying to re-program a black box had been clear from the start, and counted as a desperate measure at best, but he had hoped to be able to work out some sort of pattern. Instead, the readings from the cable’s individual strands were all over the place, random rather than conserving to a specific state as the remaining time ticked down, and the TARDIS was clearly unhappy with where this was going. What on Earth was the Master doing? The Doctor grit his teeth, as much as was possible around around a bunch of carefully separated wires which were waiting to be carefully spliced into the by now also partially cannibalized vortex manipulator. Another couple of hand would really come in handy right now. The sonic was constantly giving off short bursts of buzzes, and slowly, very slowly the temporal neutralizer was taking on shape. Despite the amount of of concentration necessary to keep the delicate work on track, the Doctor once in a while listened for any sign of an interruption. And then there they were, footsteps; not surprisingly early, but definitely quicker than he had hoped. Damn, he as not ready, not by ready by far. Hopefully, Jack would be able to stall for long enough. If there was anyone who could, it would be him. Jack HarknessThe Master

❧ Manic energy hummed beneath the surface as the Master moved onward, the desire to lash out coming to the forefront of his mind. With the familiar blue box in sight, the mad time lord chose to ignore his current company. Instead, he made to move forward in long strides, a manic gleam in his eyes. As Jack entered his line of sight, disgust mixed with it as a certain wrongness filled him, the time lord able to sense that which was unseen to most in regards to the immortal human. Without thinking, he quickly made to lash out towards Jack, hoping to cast him aside in a fluid motion so that he could go after his true target: the Doctor.
