and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The house was quiet as Rose tiptoed down the stairs and and into the kitchen. The early morning light streamed through the window as she busied herself with making a cup of coffee.
The Doctor was still fast asleep. He'd looked so peaceful, Rose hadn't wanted to wake him. She wondered vaguely if this was the most he'd slept in his whole life. She'd never seen him so out of it. Whenever they'd travelled together, The Doctor had always been awake, buzzing around and tinkering with things. Now, it seemed, he was making up for lost time and falling into what Rose considered small comas.
Rose smiled into her mug as the smell of coffee reached her nose. She inhaled deeply, cupping the mug with her hands. He was there. The Doctor was with her, upstairs. In her bed.
They were together. At last.
And yet... There was a twinge of regret. Rose didn't like to dwell, for it was unlikely they'd ever meet again, and in a way, they'd never separated. But Rose's mind often wandered to The Doctor she'd also left behind. It was hard to explain, for she'd fallen more in love with The Doctor these past weeks than she'd ever thought possible. She was so happy. So content.
But there was also something, niggling at the back of her mind. Rose's brow furrowed as she leaned upon the kitchen counter and took a leisurely sip. So deep in her reverie, she didn't noticed the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs, or the kitchen door creaking as it was pushed open.

His face scrunched up, and then his taller fingers were wiping his eyes, discarding away the sleep dust in the corners, and the grogginess from his recent venture into dreamland. Of course, not that dreamland -- the one with the aliens. That was a whole different story. Still... a part of him did wonder just how many secrets were stored inside that base. What all was really there. He filed away the adventure, perhaps for a later date, and one, where, preferably, he would be able to travel in their new TARDIS.
He rolled onto his side, clad in pin-striped pajamas. His brown eyes gazed at the digital digits of the clock in contemplation, in a feeling for somewhere far away. Seeing them, but not seeing them, as the 8 and the 00 swirled into the image of a brilliant sun.
Oh, how he missed being able to see a billion billion stars, or having a cup of tea with the strange, but surprisingly scientific ingenious blue people on the planet Mo. To travel across the universe, see ecosystems alight with fireflies and brimming with life. He missed not knowing what lie in wait, what lie in store behind big blue doors, and the grand adventure that always tempted him. A large part of him had made that his life -- stealing a box, stealing Rose, and running for what felt like forever.
Feeling the emptiness of the spot beside him, he knew his blonde haired love was already awake. Most likely downstairs, watching the tele. A small smile graced his lips, a twinkle in his brown eye as he lurched out of the bed.
Now that the life he had formerly known had been put on pause -- now that he was human, living on Earth like the rest, it was hard to adjust to. Even now. Two months after being left with Rose at Bad Wolf Bay by the other him. He never realized how much sleep human bodies needed, how much food was such a necessity. How he had to go out and get a job, buy a house. Things he had never thought he would be doing. Things that were normal, icky, everyday human things.
But he did it. And, he would continue to do it.
As he shuffled down the steps, and glanced into the kitchen, his chocolate gaze fell upon his golden-haired beauty, in all of her morning glory. The rays of the sun peaking through the window highlighted her features, shed an aura of admiration. She was stunning, even in her jimjams. And, the Doctor couldn't help but stare, greeting her with one of his million-dollar smile. The one where his love for her truly reached his eyes.
Life wasn't that bad. Not really.
Not when it was with her.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose heard muffled movements from above and glanced up at the ceiling. The Doctor was awake. She wondered what he dreamt about, if his Time Lord DNA affected those dreams. At first, she'd wondered if he'd be the same as before, always on the move, always tinkering with things in the middle of the night. It'd quickly become apparent that while yes, he did still do all those things, he also got tired a lot quicker, and often came to bed exhausted, having over excursed himself. Rose supposed having only one heart would do that to you.
He shuffled down stairs and poked his head through the door. Rose beamed at him. If possible, he looked even more handsome with his hair stuck up at odd angles. He was grinning back at her, his eyes shining. She hoped he was happy -- truly happy -- and not just putting on a front for her sake. He loved her, Rose knew that, but that didn't mean it wasn't difficult for him, for both of them.
She skipped across the room, and dragged him in by the hand, planting a quick kiss on his lips. "Good morning," she said, unable to believe how truly lucky she was. Once upon a time, Rose had never thought they'd be like this. That she'd even see his face again, let alone build a whole life with him.
"Are you hungry?" She asked, looking up into his face. "You alright?" Rose checked in on him from time to time. Not just because this was all so new, but because they really were in unknown territory. There was no manual for a half-human, half Time-Lord hybrid, and there was no telling what that would mean for The Doctor's body, or his mind.

"Good Morning," he greeted back a bit goofily after she had gave him a peck. His brown eyes were alight and alive as they took in her brilliant smile, beautiful blonde bun. He could only imagine what his hair must have looked like. Sprung up in several different strands, this way and that. In fact, it was probably the very thing that his blonde amour was trying to hide a giggling grin from. His eyes studied her, begging the question that his lips said with a half-knowing smile. "What's so funny.. Dame Rose of the Powell Estate?" He emphasized the last part with a pop of the 't', as he settled his hands on her waist and gazed into her eyes, a teasing, almost flirtatious air lingering around his words.
They didn't do this often. And, the Doctor, this Doctor, was not entirely the most romantic type, but his human version was perhaps more keen on laying on the charm now that he finally had the girl. Before, it had been all space and adventure and trouble and complicated with two hearts, especially with Mickey there, and he had never actually been able to confess, much less, portray his feelings. Now that the two of them had had a decent amount of time together and established their relationship further than romantic phrases, the Doctor didn't mind showing affection and slight playfulness every now and again. But only when they were alone. Human heart might he have, he was still the Doctor, and had not quite warmed up to the idea of public displays past hand holding and flirtatious banter. In a way, it was almost like a dream for him to even have this sort of life -- to be living the life he never thought he could. In a house. In a relationship. Happy. With Rose Tyler.
He had been lost in thought for a moment, and didn't catch on. His face fell into a question mark as all remnants of subtle romance were wiped off his face, his eyebrows coming to form an inquisitive arch while his lips circled into a dubious 'o', feigning ignorance. "What?" he blubbered, not sure what she had just asked. Then, the last part, her last question registered, and his expression conveyed reassurance and understanding, then a scrunched pfft face. "Oh, I'm fine -- fine!" he told her, being as convincing as he possibly could. Not that everything wasn't wonderful, because it absolutely was. He loved being with Rose. He loved their happy house life. He just wished they were... travelling. But there was no need to talk about that. Not now. "Everything's...fine." he told her with a slight sniff and an index that fiddled with his ear. His brown gaze averted hers if only for a moment, and broke from her grasp to head over to the toaster, pointing at it curiously as a new topic came to mind. "Have we installed the hyper lasers for frosting on this yet?" He scrunched his eyebrows, then went on, wistfully, "Imagine -- having frosting on toast as soon you wake up in the morning! Already spread for you. All you have to do is put the bread in," he made a down motion, "and then, bam! Bob's your uncle!" he exclaimed, getting more and more enthusiastic as he talked about his new idea. "I mean, just how great would that be?" He asked her, hand outstended with a face still so full of wonder, and small smile forming on his lips.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet As they broke apart, The Doctor gazed at Rose in a goofy kind of way. That loved up look in his eyes made Rose tingle. He really was happy with her, wasn't he? Sometimes she worried she wouldn't be enough for him. What could a genius like The Doctor find remotely interesting about her? She wasn't super quick or agile, not insanely intelligent or fancy. She wasn't special in any real way, and yet he liked -- no, he loved her just as she was.
Her grin quickly turned into a chuckle. Rose didn't think she'd ever seen him look bad. How was that possible? How could someone be so handsome, all the time? "Oh, nothing -- Sir Doctor of TARDIS." She emphasised the words with a little curtsey. His hands trailed down to her waist and settled there, making the tingles Rose felt intensify. It was ridiculous that a simple touch could make her so giddy.
She rested a hand upon his chest, unable to stop smiling up at him. They were in the honeymoon period of their relationship, Rose knew that. But Rose didn't think she'd ever get used to this feeling. This contentment.
It was also, truth be told, a little unusual. They'd known each other for so long -- lived together in The TARDIS and travelled the universe. Romantic dinners and flirtatious banter hadn't exactly been on the menu back then. There'd been moments -- that time they'd 'danced' while waiting for Captain Jack had always stuck in Rose's mind. It had been a particularly charged moment between them. Of course, it hadn't been him exactly, but it was him. The man in front of her would remember that moment as clearly as she did, even if he was in a different body. But still, things had been different then. More... Complicated. Out of reach.
There was also the fact that The Doctor hadn't been able to tell her how he felt until now. Even now, he struggled. But they were more romantic with each other now. It seemed his half-human side had given him the chance to really live a life he could never have as a fully fledged Time Lord.
For a second, The Doctor didn't seem to register what she'd just asked. Then something clicked and he did his best to reassure her. But for some reason, Rose didn't quite buy it. She knew him too damn well. He moved away from her then, and Rose's eyes followed him as he headed to the toaster. Her smile faded somewhat, but it returned the moment he started babbling science at her.
"Mm, great!" Rose agreed with a laugh, her eyebrows raising. Rose marvelled at his brain. How quickly it worked, and how creative he was. It never seemed to turn off. Even as a human, his brain was a work of art. "Why don't you do it?" She asked him, walking over to the toaster as well. She'd been expecting this ever since they'd moved in together. It would only be a matter of time before he'd start inventing and altering things. Not that she minded. Quite the opposite. "I'm excited to see what you have in mind."
It would also keep his mind busy, Rose mused. Which is what he needed the most, to stop himself going mad. It was difficult for the both of them, but more so for The Doctor. Nearly a thousand years of travelling the universe and now here he was, stuck in a linear line, in the same place day after day.

"Hmm, I just might..." he told her with a sharp-raise of his eyebrows and a suggestive look on his face, his mind obviously working a thousand miles a minute and his brain shifting through the algorithms of his new idea. His hands scooped up the toaster into his hands, turning it over, examining it. Trying to find out what would be best. "Mind you..." he began in eagerness of a new idea, "I could also install five thousand different spreads for buttered toast on this thing. That might be a hell of a lot more convenient," he mused aloud, as much to himself as to Rose. He took out his sonic from his pocket and began to scan the screwdriver around the mechanical device. Part of him knew he was avoiding how he felt, avoiding telling Rose, and part of him knew that this was just a way to distract himself from the normalcy. From the truth that was staring him in the face. He had been improving appliances for weeks, and he knew that Rose let him do it -- not just because she wanted him to, but because he needed to. He needed to have something to do. If they weren't chasing and trapping and stopping monsters in Pete's World, then it all became very still, and very real, and very mundane. Very human, which, if he was being honest, had never been an easy jump for him to make. Sure, he had spent the majority of all of his lives with the human race, but he had never had their life.
He had always told himself he didn't have time for it. Told himself that he had better things to do, planets and people to save, things to see. And, of course, that had all been true. Being a Timelord with all time and space at his disposal, he couldn't be bothered to live a simpler life. He'd rather keep travelling, keep running. Always running. Even his other self... the real Doctor, had chose the great expanse over Rose, for everyone's benefit involved. It was something the Metacrisis felt he could never do, something that he always frowned upon. He had sworn he would never leave her like he did, but perhaps that was because he, himself, was half-human. Or, maybe it was because he had established something with his blonde companion that the real Doctor never could.
But, now, only a couple of months of being stuck on Earth, and running was all he could think about. He missed that big old universe, and he found himself always finding something to do, new projects to take up, mysteries to solve -- even Torchwood missions to volunteer on. His Timelord brain didn't rest. Even while he slept, it was constantly creating new escapes from his ordinary life, new, inventive ways for him to fly away without waiting a whole year for the TARDIS coral to grow.
The only problem being, of course, was Rose. He knew she enjoyed the life they had established, that they currently had. And, he didn't want to do anything to sabotage their relationship, or their new life. She had just began to see him as The Doctor, which was what he had always wanted -- for her to see that him and the other man that had his name wasn't too different. The Doctor and Rose, trying to adjust to an average human life was an adventure in and of itself.
Somewhere, in a vacant alley of the Powell Estate, opened a small portal, no bigger than a dresser mirror. Out of it hopped a small alien life-form, a short being known for its trouble-making in the galaxy. His bug eyes looked this way, then that, as the spacial door behind him closed. He smelt something delicious, something that the vagabond Graske wanted. A small toothy grin enveloped onto his features, and he scurried in the direction of what was nearby.
Slowly, he slipped into a door with just a crack of wiggle-room, which was more than enough for his stature, and hid behind the wall closest to him. His eyes locked onto the target, onto the lovely thing on the table, and he couldn't contain the little laugh of mischief that came next. Then, he realized what he had done, and silently cursed himself.
Thankfully, he was able to reel himself back into hiding before the two humans saw he was there. And, he was relieved.
Soon, he would have the shiny.

'Cause I followed my star and that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you Rose chuckled; she loved watching The Doctor work. His brain had always attracted her just as much as his body. It was no secret that he was easy on the eye these days. That hair especially had always been a favourite of Rose’s. But she’d loved him before the great hair and pin striped suits. She just hadn’t realised it until she’d almost lost him.
She edged a bit closer, not wanting to disturb, but wanting to see what he was doing. She leaned upon the counter with her elbows, a big grin on her face. ”Oh really convenient, yeah,” she agreed, knowing it didn’t matter what she said anymore, for he was already falling down the rabbit hole.
The dismantling of random objects had become a regular occurrence in recent weeks, and Rose was quite sure she’d wake up one day to find their house sprouting wings and flying them away to some unknown location. While it was amusing and a lot of fun to see The Doctor invent these mad appliances, a part of Rose couldn’t help but worry that he was already getting bored with her. His mind was so vibrant, so brilliant, she hated that she was holding him back. She couldn’t help but feel he belonged out in the universe somewhere, saving species and planets, and battling monsters. Not here, dismantling toasters. Yet here he was, because of her. Rose wasn’t sure if she deserved a man like him, but she was sure she’d follow him wherever he went.
Wait – what was that?
Had it been her imagination or had she just heard someone laugh. She looked to her left, feeling a little unnerved. ”Did you hear that?” She asked The Doctor, knowing it was unlikely given how immersed he was. She straightened up, her hazel eyes narrowing a little. Why did she get the feeling something odd was about to happen?

The sonic screwdriver was in his mouth as he tinkered with the toaster with his hands, wires sticking out of the bottom as his fingers worked to create some type of creative current. Even without looking at her, he could tell that Rose was becoming slightly exasperated from all of his experiments lately. Though, maybe not quite as tired as Jackie. She had almost had a cow after what he had done to the washing machine. Not that her opinion mattered, because it usually didn't amount to much in his eyes -- only when her daughter was concerned. And, even then... well! He would only discuss certain things with her. Everybody knew she had a hell of gob. Worse than him, and could spread gossip like wildfire. He didn't want to be mixed up in that.
But, he did want Rose to approve of him. And, he did want to try and make this life -- this new, human life -- with her work. It was all he had ever wanted, ever since she had first begun travelling with him, and it was why he committed himself to odd jobs around the house occasionally, and, sometimes, around the neighborhood. Just yesterday, he had trimmed the bushes of Mrs. Patsy's little--
The Doctor furrowed his eyebrows as a sudden sound fell onto his ears. A small laugh that was neither his or Rose's... and they were the only ones in the room. In the whole building, even. His brown orbs met Rose's in confusion. "Yeah..." he said, his thoughts wandering to what it could have been, searching through the alien directory in his brain. "It almost sounded like..." He placed the toaster down, and his eyes narrowed at the doorway. He thought that he had saw a flash of something move just then, and his sneakers carried him over to the spot.
His fingers held onto the edge of the wall, peering around the corner, and his brown eyes searched the area in which he was almost sure he had seen a sign of exterritorial life. But, now, staring at the now empty, uninhabited space, he was beginning to wonder if the ordinary mundane schedule of everyday normalcies was beginning to get to him. "That's weird," he commented with questioning pursed lips and contemplative brows. "Nothing. Or, well! Looks like nothing."
"But... if you look closely," He examined the wooden floor a bit further... squatting down, he could pinpoint some type of residue. He scrunched down and scraped the dust-like particles in his hand, rubbing them between his fingers. "There is a pebble to found among the rubble."

'Cause I followed my star and that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you To Rose’s relief, she wasn’t going crazy. The Doctor had heard it too. She was impressed, given how focused he’d been, with wires sticking out from under his fingers and his sonic screwdriver balancing between his teeth.
She glanced around, feeling unnerved. Rose suddenly felt like she was in a horror movie, the ones with the laughing children, and scary clowns…
Rose followed The Doctor, feeling very unprepared in her pyjamas. Barely even breathing, she watched as The Doctor held on to the edge of the wall and peered around the corner. Even as a human, Rose had been around The Doctor long enough to know when they were on the brink of discovering something. Whatever had made that sound, it wasn’t from Earth.
But then, quite suddenly, The Doctor dismissed it. Rose let out a breath, allowing herself a moment to relax. But no, that wasn’t the end of it. The Doctor quickly changed course, and suddenly he was on the floor, examining the wood panels. Rose couldn’t help but roll her eyes and grin as she bent down to join him.
Sure enough, there was dust-like residue that was much more than dust. Rose’s brow furrowed as she examined it closely, her interest peaking. ”What is it?” She asked in a hushed voice, feeling the familiar feelings of excitement. For a second, they were back in their travelling days, running and exploring. She locked eyes with The Doctor and grinned. ”There’s something here, isn’t there?”

"It looks like..." He murmured as he surveyed the dust-like particles closely, squinting his brown eyes as he analyzed it in chocolate depth, rubbing the residue between his fingers for a second more before sniffing it and making a prompt expression of quiet disbelief. "But, it can't be," he scoff-mumbled to himself with slight bewilderment as he took another big sniff. He narrowed his brows at the matter at hand (haha, get it?). He stared at the soot-like substance curiously as he shifted the sift from the ground of his thumb to the palm of his hand, holding it level with his gaze. Delicately, he delivered the tip of his tongue toward the particle dust in a dash of speed, and was immediately overcome by a feeling of unsettling disgust by the taste that resulted in a grimace and a rather comical theatrical with his recoiling tongue. But, at least now, he knew he was right. "It's rift particles." he told his human-hearted companion in duel confirmation to his earlier thoughts and answer to her most recent question. "They're nothing, really. Residue caused by a temporal-spatial dimensional disturbance--" He explained, letting his timelord thoughts drip out, weighing with an undertone of his ethereal eternal knowledge. "Usually by something ripping its way through into another world." He elaborated, then began to gather to his feet as he continued, albeit with a bit of a dismissive, lackluster tone with a tug from the Dame of the Powell Estate herself. "Most species these days don't use that type of travel anymore, so whatever we're dealing with must be pretty thick. Or, at least, a little fundamentally challenged." He imagined that last part might earn him a snicker from his beautiful blonde, but then again, he could just be being rude again. Between the Doctor and Donna DNA, he couldn't stash enough cheekiness.
On a more serious note, though, he took a moment to consider the possibilities, and what could have been in their house. It didn't take him long to sort through the more obvious details as he sprinkled and clapped the dust back towards the floor with a thoughtful look. He stashed hands into timelord pockets, contemplative. "Couldn't have been too tall," he deducted, sneaking a glance at Rose and snaking her a half-smile. "It would have made a hell of a lot more noise and, oh, Rose Tyler, you would have seen it with your back turned." his eyes were hinting with a tease, a small subtly that was more present now than it ever was in the past. Though, it was true how, sometimes, she perplexed even him with her unintentional intuitive knowledge and gut about things. Sometimes, it was really like she had eyes in the back of her head, or, maybe... like there was a small part of her that still retained an essence of the Bad Wolf.
Nah. He didn't think it could be possible.
But, then again, whoever thought a half-human, half-timelord metacrisis would ever come to fruition?

'Cause I followed my star and that's what you are, I've had a merry time with you "It can't be what?" Rose asked a little too eagerly. It was amazing how quickly they could fall back into their usual routine. Were they just kidding themselves with this domestic life? Maybe they really were destined to be out there, exploring the stars for the rest of their lives. As much as Rose loved a bit of stability now and then, she'd ran away from the mundane at the age 19 and she hadn't stopped since.
She watched in wonder as The Doctor took in another big sniff. Then she lurched back in disgust as he gave the particles a taste. Judging from his reaction, it didn't taste like chocolate. If anything, it tasted like something that looked like chocolate. Rose scrunched up her face. "I'll never get used to you doing that."
Rose blinked several times, letting the jargon wash over her. She'd got used to this over the years, but she still couldn't keep up with him. Everything came naturally to The Doctor, and he tended to forget that not everyone's minds worked as quickly as his own.
"Wait, what?" Rose said, jumping to her feet and following The Doctor. "Ripping doesn't sound good." Why was she smiling? The Doctor appeared somewhat bored with his discovery, but suddenly, Rose was wide awake. She chuckled and rolled her eyes at him. "Oh very politically correct, Doctor," Rose added with a grin.
"But seriously-" Rose edged closer to him and rested her chin upon his shoulder. She let him list off everything he had deduced so far, all the while giving him her best innocent smile. "-Doctor, are we going on another adventure? Because y'know, I'm in my pyjamas." She grinned.
