Today was a very important day. River had been saving it for weeks. In theory, she could go whenever she liked, time travel and all that. But she liked having somewhat a bit of a feeling like she was going along the same timeline as her parents. It made her feel a bit more connected to them and generally just more rooted to something. After more than a lifetime of drifting through time and space, it felt odd to yearn for roots. She wasn't even sure she completely understood it herself.
Whatever the case, tonight was the night. River had picked the perfect dress, matching amaranthine heels, and a fresh layer of lipstick. Plus she had sent a message to The Doctor, telling him "It's Amy's birthday, don't miss it!" Along with the coordinates to the right time and place. No matter, if he made it or not, River was determined to have a fun night out. Unfortunately, Rory was working and wouldn't be able to join them. River knew that Amy would have him make it up to her, sooner or later. But for them, it only meant that there would be no one around to be the 'sensible' one. Oh, it was going to be a great night.
River appeared with a crack and a flash of light, in Amy and Rory's back yard. Adjusting her dress and checking on her hair, with her hands, River then walked briskly to the door, that lead into the house. She knocked lightly "Amy? Are you ready?"

Amy would be the first to call out anybody who said she wasn't a serious person, and while years of staring down the greatest horrors in the universe had made her need to stay sharp, there were some wonders that just lit up her inner child, and birthdays were perhaps the most conventional. It happened right on schedule every year, but somehow never ceased to be exciting. Sadly Rory had been called in to work since early in the morning, as was the disadvantage of him being a nurse; medical staff can be called in any time they are needed, and while the Doctor seemed to be improving at getting them back on the day they left, he still had a few odd spots in his record and couldn't afford to miss any more time.
She had been sitting on the sofa when she heard the knock and call from the door and texted 'Got some visitors! Try to be back home Soon' (He likely didn't have his phone on him right this second if he was working, but it was better not to make him too worried by saying nothing) energetically leaped up, rushing to the door. It had been a while since she'd seen her daughter last, and even though she had technically known her most of her life, she still regretted the time she hadn't been able to spend with Melody. Amy opened the door with a grin before returning to her usual expression of mild indignation at nothing in particular "River! I haven't seen you in a little while, how have you been?" She could feel this was going to be a fun birthday.

It wasn't that often that River got to see her mother, even fewer times, where Amy knew who she was. So when she did, River treasured every moment. Tonight would be no different. It made the reason to celebrate even greater. "Busy busy busy" River replied her mother. "Studying.. so, nothing interesting. Who would have thought getting a degree would be so boring" Thankfully she was a quick study and didn't have to read many things more than once. Plus she preferred to do her studying in person. Meaning traveling to whatever dig they were studying and get her notes from there. It made for some interesting discussions with her teachers if their notes were wrong. But River enjoyed proving them wrong. Not that she was smug or anything, no no, not at all.
Darting past her mother, River stepped through the door and made her way inside. "So? Are you ready for the annual Amy Pond's birthday extravaganza?" If she wasn't, River was more than happy to help her get ready. Maybe she should have brought some alcohol. But River hadn't planned on having a pre-party, maybe she should have. But nevermind, it would be fine.

A smile quirked at the edge of Amy's lips, even after all this time her daughter being visibly older than she was felt a bit odd but she had no desire to waste any chances to spend time with her. She certainly cared plenty about how River had been doing, but the question also helped with the chronic issue of knowing a person a bit out of order by giving a rough idea where in River's life she had currently reached, maybe not as accurate as comparing journals but Amy had a lot less she could accidentally give away, so it was good enough. "Good to hear. Rory and I have been fine, just working, nothing too special."
"I think I'm ready... depends what you have planned of course."

It was hard, this was hard. Making somewhere on time right date and everything. The TARDIS wasn't notorious for being on time for anywhere or anywhen for that matter. There always usually seemed to be something to get in his way. Be it a time flux or an anomaly or some other damned thing that would end up veering the old girl off course. Of course the message had been very specific and he had begged the TARDIS to not let this one be off like most of his others. He just had to be there. No if's ands or buts allowed.
He'd even gotten dressed for the occasion. Changed up his usual tweed outfit for something more appropriate. He even sported a fresh bow tie to boot. There was no reason not to look good this day. After all these moments for humans only came but once a year for them. Granted he could spend each on in a succession if he truly wanted to, but where would be the real fun in that to be honest. No, he was going to be good, and take each splended moment like this with grace.
Though it not clear if he was truly religious, he sure as Gallifrey was praying right now to his TARDIS, even sweet talking her with some personal time of him working on her, tuning her up and what not as needed, just for her to get him there on time. To his luck, the TARDIS for once in her existence, decided to behave and give her thief exactly what he wanted. Dropping out of the time vortex, the TARDIS began to materialize into the physical world, its vwhorping sound loud and proud as it did. Filling in a small portion of Amy's yard as it would.
Content with his readings, he gave jovial 'hah!' out loud and then kissed the console. Thankfully no one else was there to she his exaltations to his TARDIS. For him he wouldn't have cared, but the companions on the other hand...they always usually found his antics about strange to say the least. Once he was done, he went to the door to go see the fruits of his mark to land proper. Hopefully this would be a good enough surprise. After all Amy knew that he wasn't one to really be on time always. So for once being on time might be the best present she could get.

Of course, River was glad to hear that her parents were fine. But she couldn't help but wish that she knew more, knew how they really were. She tried to keep in touch, but she got quite busy, both with studying and time travel. And figuring out the time difference between Luna and Earth, was tricky. She would have to make do with 'fine' and hope that before the night was over, she really knew how they were doing. "I didn't actually have any specific plans in mind. Other than music, fun, and probably quite a bit of alcohol." Plans usually never worked out the way she wanted them to, so River tended to just go with the flow. At least when it came to nights out.
Turning her face back to look at the garden, River smiled as the TARDIS materialized. "Looks who's on time for once" She looked back to her mother "Even if I had planned something for us, I'm sure those plans wouldn't happen, with him around" Things were usually pretty unexpected when you were around The Doctor. Even if they stayed in their own time and on Earth, it was hard to know what they might get up to. Maybe she would steal a bus again. River wouldn't rule that out. Pushing past her mother once again, River went back out into the garden, to greet her husband. "Who are you and what have you done with my unpunctual, tweed-wearing husband?" River said with a fond smile, as a kind of greeting. It was her uncanny way to say that she was happy to see him.

Amy followed after River, but once they were outside, she hung back, giving River and the Doctor a few moments to themselves before she approached to claim a hug from her Raggedy Doctor. ”Wait… You two are all dressed up,” Amy observed. ”Are we goin’ somewhere quite posh, then?” she asked, feeling like she really ought to change. If they were going to a local club, she would be dressed appropriately: all black, short skirt, cute pair of heels -- but it sounded like they were soon to be off to a more formal setting where it would be embarrassing if someone were to mistake her for an escort (or other ‘woman of the night’). With a sigh, Amy declared, ”Well, I’ll need just a few minutes -- I’m goin’ ta change inta somethin’ a bit more distinguished.” She turned and started to leave, and then she turned back and said, ”Feel free ta come on inside -- I’ll be back in just a mo’,” and then she dashed off, heading for her bedroom and the contents of her wardrobe. True to her word, Amy returned only a few minutes later, and looking far more than acceptable enough to meet any required dress code they may encounter. In fact, she looked stunning in a floor length, metallic gold halter dress. ”It’s nae too much, d’ye think? I mean, it is my birthday, so…” she trailed off with a shrug, knowing full well that she was going to stand out in that dress. That was part of its appeal. In fact, all this birthday princess was lacking was a tiara. And besides… When else was she going to get a chance to wear that dress? It had been a gift from one of the designers she’d modeled for, and it was more ‘red carpet’ than ‘family night’, so… If not now, then maybe never. ”Can I get ye two anythin’ ta drink, or will it be straight ta tha TARDIS?” Amy asked. the eleventh doctorRiver Song

"Wouldn't you love to know..." he teased a little at River getting close to her physically, giving her a mischievous smirk. He didn't get much time to look over at Amy before he got glomped by her. However, he was more than estatic for getting a hug from her. At least she was happy and in a good mood. Good sign for a promising birthday. Before he could really get anything out though, she dashed back inside to change. He thought she looked fine, but well Amy was a girl who could dress to impress.
"Hi to you too." he said even though she was already gone. He gave a chuckle though and looked over ad River warmly. She always looked so great, no matter what she was dressed up in. "Your looking fabulous as usual."
He then gave the sky a quick viewing before looking around Amy's yard. He was ready to rock and roll, but clearly Amy was not. Though he didn't see what reason there would be to go inside. He knew she'd be out soon.
Looking back at River he asked, "So what's the plan? Was there plans? Or am I supposed to have something, because I always got back up plans if we need them of course. Or are we just letting Amy decide?"
He wanted to ask before Amy came back just in case River did have something up her sleeve. If not they'd improvise he supposed. Eventually then Amy did get back though. And he gave her a big smile. She looked stunning.
"You look red carpet ready." he stated with a light nod.

River responded to The Doctor's mischievous smirk, with one of her own. She would love to have continued their flirtatious greeting, but they were cut short when Amy got in between them and hugged him. Not that River minded really, but it was always a shame when flirts got cut short.
To be honest, River didn't have any plans set in stone. But she figured that dressing up and ended up not going anywhere special, was better than not dressing up and ending up at a royal wedding or something like it. Besides, she loved to dress up. And she would take any excuse to wear something as gorgeous as the dress she was now wearing. Amy dashed off to change and left River and The Doctor alone. She smiled as he complimented her. "Thank you, you're looking quite fab yourself." She took a few steps towards him until they were close enough to touch. "There really wasn't ever a plan. I didn't know if you'd make it or not. So I thought I'd just wing it. We can always crash a party somewhere if we have to" River smiled and reached up to adjust The Doctor's bowtie, even though it was sitting fine on its own. "Letting Amy decide might be a good idea, since it is her birthday and all" River just hoped they wouldn't end up going somewhere too Scottish. She wasn't really dressed for that.
As Amy returned, River couldn't help but stare a bit. Just like she assumed everyone would do for the rest of the night. "No one could possibly miss you, in that dress. So if you're aiming to get free drinks, I'd say you're guaranteed to get pissed very quickly" She grinned at Amy "You look great Amy"
"I don't know. We were just about to ask you where you'd like to go tonight. Or what you'd like to do" If the Doctor hadn't shown up, River had planned on travelling with her vortex manipulator. But travelling in the TARDIS was much more comfortable.

Plans were discussed, and it seemed that the Doctor and River would be happy to let Amy decide where they would be going this evening, dressed to the nines. ”We should be sipping champagne, dressed like this,” Amy declared. ”Maybe crash some posh historical party? Like… The Googlympus?” she suggested, mentioning the December 6, 2006 party thrown by Google in San Francisco. There had been tents set up all along Pier 48, each one dedicated to a different Greek god or goddess -- and each god and goddess acted as the host or hostess of their own tent. Of course, these weren’t real deities -- they were just normal people cosplaying and having a great time. In addition to the divinely inspired tents, there were a slew of things to do -- like try on historical wigs and get your picture taken. There were orchestral performances… Burlesque dancers… Jazz singers… And a giant, inflatable whale was installed to act as a meeting point or landmark during the event. Amy remembered reading about it all a few years before the Doctor came back into her life. Before she married Rory. Before her crazy, wonderful life really began. She thought it sounded like a great deal of fun. ”What d’ye think?” she asked. the eleventh doctorRiver Song

The Doctor had given River a cheeky smirk, but was definitely in quiet anticipation of what Amy had wanted to go and do. What she offered, he most silently admitted to himself, wasn't quite what he hoped or expected, but it was her birthday and if she wanted to go off to some fancy that was located still here on Earth so be it. It was her day after all, who was he to impose on that. He had just hoped with all the fun they'd had so far traveling time and space, that she'd have thought of something perhaps...bigger. Maybe father back in time or farther forward in time or something strange and mysterious off world. Not quite a nerd block party in San Fran. So there really was a part of him that was hoping it was only just an example maybe. But he didn't want to say so out loud, because of how selfish it sounded.
"Well, if that's what the birthday girl wishes, I shall oblige." he stated gesturing to the TARDIS. "A party crash does sound like it could be a good time."
He himself wasn't the greatest party animal, but if pulled into it, he could rage a dance floor like the next bloke. And with River there, she could keep him from making an utter ass of himself. Which was a plus no doubt.
"So let's get this birthday party train on the move shall we?" he stated enthusiastically.

The Googlympus was certainly a thing that had gone down in history. River knew that because she had looked it up. She had also attempted to go there once but was distracted by a wanted Martian, crossing her path and making her run all over town before she finally caught him and could collect the reward. "That is a party that I've wanted to crash for a while. And as long as we stay away from the southern parts of San Fransisco, we should be fine" It was a tiny bit dangerous to go to the same town twice, but it was for a special occasion, and it was for Amy. So of course River was ready to risk it. San Fran was a big city and River had never actually made it to the party, so it should be fine.
River made a mental note, that she should make sure The Doctor had a good time too. While Amy got drunk and got to flirting with everyone (like mother, like daughter). Even if it was Amy's night, she couldn't just leave him in a corner on his own. And at the same time, she had to make sure he didn't get into trouble either. At least, not without her. At the Doctor's suggestion, River headed towards the TARDIS and wasted no time, waiting for the others. She entered right away and steered straight for the console. Flipping a few levers, River started putting in the coordinates for tonight's journey. She left a few for her husband though, just so he wouldn't feel left out. If he started moping now, there might be no stopping it. Even if River had a few cheats for making him smile. "I assume we're aiming for fashionably late, just to skip the boring parts?"
