And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Vopheitera was a rather small planet that, for the most part, held little significance, or so the Master would claim. Any other being would be able to recognize that it was a rather beautiful planet with a moderately advanced species who largely did not rely on verbal communication and looked down upon those who did. What any other visitor might have noticed is that Vopheitera seemed to have a strange lack of tourists, a fact that anyone who visited was likely to learn as to why.
For his own part, the Master was not interested in the planet or even the people themselves. Rather, it had come to his recognition that Vopheitera seemed to have a rather powerful artifact within its possession. While the people recognized that this was technology, they also revered it as sacred and kept it within the palace, the small sliver full of data hidden away from the eyes of everyone except royalty.
Desiring it for his own purposes, he'd naturally chosen to gather it through what he considered to be a distraction. Through a bit of work, he had managed to form a group of rebels in the form of those who could be considered the oppressed- those lower on the evolutionary pole that they were incapable of speaking through anything but verbal language and thus suffered due to Vopheitera.
The coup was set to strike at any moment until he'd been outed. Arrested in the night, the Master found himself being dragged away to prison. How utterly annoying, he thought, gaze flickering about. He'd have to get out of this situation. He wasn't about to deal with whatever punishment they thought they could deal upon him.
His attention was caught as the car came to a pause. However, instead of trying to take him out they threw someone else in before continuing on.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose wasn't sure how she managed to get herself into these situations. Back in school she was always getting into trouble for speaking her mind. In truth, she'd been a bit of a mouthy teen (and not much had changed) but it seemed this world in particular wasn't a fan of her smart mouth.
She'd found herself separated from The Doctor, screaming and shouting while being arrested and frog marched toward a car with blacked out windows. "Let go of me!" She yelled over her shoulder at her captors, who predictably paid her no attention. The ropes around her wrists were cutting into her skin, and Rose had been about to kick the shins of the person behind her when she was shoved roughly into the back seat of the car.
She almost fell on top of the guy already in there. He'd been arrested too by the looks of it and Rose gave him the once over, wondering whether to engage in conversation. It didn't take her long to make up her mind.
"How'd you get here?" She asked quietly, wondering if he even spoke English. He looked human, but there was no guarantee. "They're a bit... Strict here, aren't there? I don't even know what I said before I was jumped by three guards." She slumped back against the seat and raised her tied up wrists. Rose couldn't even remember the name of the planet she was on.
How was she going to get out of this? Sorry this took so long, lovely <333 • The Master •

❧ The Master eyed the human before him with a critical eye. Human. Of all the species he might have expected that was admittedly the last on his list. After all, Vopheitera was not known for tourists and humans were perhaps the least capable of getting to places they desired to go.
Then again, the backwards species always did seem to get everywhere. It was terribly annoying. Nonetheless, his interest was at least temporarily caught, particularly since there was something a bit off here. Besides, this female could be of some use for his escape.
”A joke,” he drawled, ”The Vopheiterans aren’t very fluent in sarcasm, I’m afraid.” He allowed his expression to settle into something fairly charming. However, it did not lack in the Time Lord’s quiet manner.
”Merely different customs. Though, the matter may be related more to what you did not say.” His gaze drifted from Rose, flickering around as if in search of something. ”The Vopheiterans look down upon those who rely upon verbal forms of communication. Most likely you made a faux pas that, in this instance, could have you arrested.”

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose straightened up, which proved exceptionally difficult when your hands were tied (literally). She looked over at the seat beside her. The man she was with was examining her closely. She looked back, a wary expression flickering across her face.
His voice seeped with arrogance, but also intelligence, so Rose made a mental note not to judge him too harshly. He was handsome, she noticed, and in different circumstances, and a different time, Rose imagined she'd quite enjoy him, but now was not the time for flirting. She always did like a bad boy.
"Well, that's just great." Rose sighed, sinking back into her seat and staring up at the ceiling. She had no idea where they were going and right now she didn't particularly care. She'd work it out, somehow. Who knows; maybe she could escape with this guy? "A heads up might've been nice, Doctor!" She muttered under her breath. "At least the car's alright, I suppose. Not too shabby."
"Do you know where we're going?" She asked mildly, not caring much for the answer. Rose assumed it would be some kind of prison, but just how brutal was impossible to say. "What's ya' name?" She added with a small smile. "I'm Rose."

❧ The Master largely ignored the wary expression being shot his way, figuring that for the moment it was perfectly natural. After all, they were both prisoners and chances were this human wouldn't trust him much until they were actually managed to get out of this. Or, rather, he managed to get out of this.
Had he actually been the species that he appeared to be, chances were that the Master would not have managed to hear what Rose had said. However, he wasn't human and as a Time Lord, it was quite easy to pick up what she had muttered. The Doctor? Not only did that explain this human's presence, but it did also catch his attention bring all sorts of questions to mind.
"A temporary prison, undoubtedly," he said mildly, "Before they send us to our individual trials." The people here weren't complete savages after all. He allowed a charming smile to cross his face. "Archelaus," he lied, "Tell me, Rose, how would you like to get out of this little carriage?"

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet The guy beside her was full of the joys of spring (or not). He didn't seem remotely worried or frightened; if anything, he was rather lethargic and bored. It didn't annoy Rose so much as spark her curiosity. Did he have a plan? Did he mean to get himself captured? Who was he?
Luckily, he seemed to have warmed to Rose somewhat and engaged himself in conversation. Turning look at her properly, he smiled. It was a very attractive smile, and one Rose knew he used with a purpose. "Nice to meet ya," she replied, grinning at his sudden change in demeanour.
He asked the question lightly, but Rose knew he was already well aware of what those words would do. Rose scooted round so she was facing him. "I knew it," she replied, her grin broadening into a look of triumph. "I knew ya had a plan. So you know how to get outta here, then?"
Rose's defeatist attitude vanished in a flash, and she put herself into Archelaus' hands. Not altogether trusting him, but happy there was some sort of plan. Sorry this took so long, lovely <333 • The Master •

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ Boredom was familiar to the Master. He could recall walking through his entire life often feeling unchallenged and without equal. Perhaps the only thing that cracked through the surface was the existence, though the emotions that the other Timelord tended to bring to the surface were not always positive. All he really knew was that he was willing to acknowledge the other to some extent. While certainly not his equal, he nearly possessed that title and for the moment that was enough.
Outside of that, he had become accustomed to the lack of...fire he seemed to possess. It was not to say passion did not exist, but his emotions did not burn as brightly as they had before. A positive. He had been a fool last time, consumed by his own madness and emotions. He could think a bit clearer now, though only a fool would think the madness was truly gone.
"You as well," he said smoothly. The words came out easily, said more times than he could recall. However, he found his attention focused on her answer to his question. "Of course," he said, "Everything has an exit, whether it was created or not." In this case, their temporary prison merely was not well constructed. For one such as himself, it was child's play to get out. "This place has some...structural weaknesses we can take advantage of. All we'll really have to worry about is not getting captured again."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose gazed at her new ally. "I gotta tell you, Archelaus, I like the way you think." His speech pattern reminded Rose of someone very old and wise, and she began to wonder if he really was, despite his appearance.
"Right," she agreed. "I'm in no hurry for that to happen." Her eyes scanned the compartment, looking for these weaknesses that Archelaus spoke of. There was nothing obvious, but Rose knew there was something obvious she was missing. Maybe the hinges? Or the ceiling? Her wrists felt numb, and Rose wondered if the ropes were slowly cutting off her circulation.
"I don't suppose you have any idea how to untie these, do you?" She added, lifting up her roped wrists and sounding pessimistic. She doubted he'd be able to help much until they were out of this car, but there was always hope, however slim.
Rose glanced to the driver, before leaning forward a little and lowering her voice. "So, what's the plan?"

❧ The Master rose an eyebrow at the compliment. A familiar sense of satisfaction settling for a moment. "Is that so?" he mused, raising an eyebrow, "Well, it certainly is a better idea than sitting about here." He imagined most fools would do so under some foolish pretence that that was the law and it should be respected, nevermind that the people here had foolish laws and hardly knew what they were talking about.
He was not particularly surprised as her gaze seemed to flicker about, seeking out whatever he had found but unable to find. The Doctor had never been one for choosing bright company. Exactly what attracted him to these lower life forms he could not even begin to guess. For all his opinions about the Doctor, he knew quite well that the other Time Lord was above humans and always had been.
"That comes second," he noted. There were, he knew, multiple ways to get rid of their confines, but the easiest would likely be through either hypnotism or cruder methods. After all, it was not as if these were the most advanced methods of capture he had ever seen. Turning his attention to an area of the cart that he had noticed a structural fault, he sharply sent a kick to it, causing it to break under the pressure, creating the beginnings of a hole.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose turned to grin at him, but even as she did so, some anxious feeling bubbled up in the pit of her stomach. She couldn't put her finger on it, but there was something about the way he looked at her that put Rose on edge.
It wasn't that he was just pleased, it was the sheer satisfaction, the almost smug look on his face that Rose didn't like. It was like he expected her admiration. That lack of humility always set off alarm bells in her head. Still, he was willing to help her so he couldn't be all bad, right? Maybe he was just a bit of an arrogant ass.
Rose watched Archelaus with a strange mixture of wariness and fascination. What did he mean by second? "Okay, so what comes first?" She whispered, wondering what he had planned. "You're not going to hurt him, are you?"
It seemed Arch hadn't heard, or if he did, he'd chosen to ignore Rose completely. His attention was now fully focused on a random part of the cart, a part Rose had glazed over but paid no real attention to. She hadn't noticed anything particularly abnormal about it, but apparently, Arch did. Before Rose knew it, he had kicked a hole in the structure. Something began to dawn upon Rose.
"Don't tell me we have to jump?" She groaned. She wasn't looking forward to being battered and bruised. Her eyes darted up to the driver, who seemed to have noticed. "He knows," she whispered, her hazel eyes largening in fear.

❧ The Master was admittedly not paying as much attention to Rose as some might argue he should. It was undeniably one of the few traits that tended to stick to many of his incarnations, though to what degree he was unwilling to say. After all, it was not one that this particular incarnation was too fond of, particularly when he recalled that some of his newer ones had held it in spades.
He paused to glance at her. The annoyance lurked beneath the surface, but far more well hidden than it would have ever been before. In its place was merely a thoughtful look. "Getting out of here." A genuine confusion crossed his face at the suggestion that he would harm the person running the cart. "Why would I do that?"
It was not so much that he cared about the person. However, the person had not crossed his mind in the slightest. He could care quite little about what happened to this person.
He rose an eyebrow at what Rose said, not seeming to see any problem with what she was saying. "Well, if you'd prefer staying in here," he said, sarcasm creeping into his tone, "Don't let me stop me." His expression didn't change. "Then that's our cue." Without another word, he jumped, expecting Rose to make her own decision as to whether to follow or not.

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose studied his face. "No reason," she replied, feeling relieved. She wasn't sure why she'd thought he would hurt the driver, but for some reason, she couldn't get the thought out of her mind. Maybe her travels with The Doctor had made her more perceptive, or maybe she was just naturally sceptical. Whatever it was, now was not the time to question it.
As she'd expected, the next step was to jump. She made a face at Arch as he shot her a sarcastic remark. Before she could retort however, their time had come and her new friend had jumped, leaving Rose alone in the cart. The cart was still travelling at high speed, and Rose could hear the driver shouting to them from the front. With no hands to break her fall, Rose knew this was going to hurt. Still, it had to be done. Letting out a tiny groan, Rose took a deep breath, scrunched up her face in anticipation and hurled herself out of the hole.
It'd hurt even more than she'd expected. The concrete slammed into her shoulder, wrist and face, and Rose rolled several times, eventually landing face down in some grass. She coughed and spluttered, and felt something warm seeping through her clothes. Lifting her head a quarter of an inch, she realised she was bleeding. Her head felt fuzzy as she attempted to pull herself to her feet, and with her wrists still tied together, she couldn't do much more than sit up. Feeling extremely sick, she looked around in a daze, trying to regain some balance.

❧ An immediate sense of skepticism filled the Master at the answer he received. "Of course," he quipped, "Natural curiosity, I'm sure." He didn't find himself inclined to believe her. Distrust tended to come to the Time Lord naturally and it was only magnified since she was human. So often people lied and the weak seemed to do it the most. It didn't escape his mind that the person he desired to meet- the supposed Doctor- had lied to the Master the most.
Not that the Doctor would ever own up to that. It seemed lying and running were two traits that the man would never be rid of no matter how much he changed.
Despite jumping from the cart at high speed, the Master would appear to be relatively unharmed, possessing nothing more than a bit of dust. His gaze briefly turned to the cart and a frown crossed his face as he saw that Rose had not immediately followed. Thankfully, there seemed to be no need to just leave as the woman seen finally decide to get along with it instead of stay there aftera long moment, landing a good distance away.
Walking over, he crouched down, his gaze narrowed. Even an idiot could tell that she was injured. There was a great deal of blood and he wouldn't be surprised if Rose had managed to break something with the clumsy way she'd thrown herself out. Still...this could work to his advantage, he supposed.
Briefly, he focused his attention on the rope. Carefully, he attempted on shimming one of of his hands out. Once one was free, he got rid of the binds. Quickly he turned his attention to Rose. "Hold out your hands," he instructed, "I'll get rid of the rope and then we'll do something about getting you patched up."

and i won't feel a thing here lies everything, the world i wanted at my feet Rose knew Archelaus didn't believe her, but for some reason, he didn't question it. Maybe there was no time, or maybe he was just used to it. Rose wondered briefly, in those few seconds, if she'd misjudged him. Maybe he as a perfectly nice, normal guy and he just had one of those faces. Still, she'd worry about that later. The first job was jumping out of this moving cart.
It took Rose a good thirty seconds to realise Archelaus hadn't abandoned her after all. He was making his way over, completely unscathed. "Wha - how'd you manage that?!" She asked him, awed. Had he done that before or something? Rose studied him briefly. Okay, so maybe he wasn't a normal guy. "You're not human, are you?"
Rose did as she was told, holding out her wrists meekly. Archelaus seemed focused, but not particularly concerned. If anything, he looked a bit annoyed. Rose said nothing. The effects of rolling several times onto solid ground had taken it's toll, and she felt dazed. "Thank you," she managed, grimacing in pain. "How'd you get untied?" There was something very different about her companion, and Rose had a sneaking suspicion she was going to find out what his secret was very soon.

❧ The Master rose an eyebrow at the apparent surprise Rose expressed at his lack of injury. Briefly, he had to wonder how much the Doctor had told her about this place. The thought was almost immediately replaced with a sense of disdain as he realized there was a good chance the other Time Lord might have said nothing at all. His encounter with the Doctor's most recent regeneration left him with the impression that his rival had become a bit more thoughtless than some of his previous ones.
Or, perhaps this human had just not understood what she had been told. It was not as if humans were the most advanced of species.
"Not at all," he said honestly, "I would say it is entirely likely you are the only human here." He paused, a thoughtful expression taking over his face. "Likely for the better. I do not imagine the Vopheiteran would be fond of humans." Careful words. If this girl really knew the Doctor she likely had a bleeding heart. The Doctor always chose the ones that cared.
As she held out her hands, he untied the rope. "You are welcome," he said casually. He glanced up at the query, amusement crossing his face briefly. "Nothing extraordinary. I imagine you could have done it yourself if you were not injured."
