She threw a quick glare at Tobias as she clearly heard her door being broken in. That was the second one this year. Her irritation only lasted a heartbeat, there was no more time than that. The next expression that crossed her face was somewhere in the grey area between a wince and a grin as she heard the painful thump on the stairs. It never hurt to soften up the target and distract them. Then Ms. Laser was coming into the Attic, a tall woman aiming low at Tobias' reflection in the mirror with a rather impressive looking laser pistol. But Sarah Jane Smith had a pistol of her own. Before the woman with short blonde hair and a steely jaw could get both feet into the room, Sarah Jane shot the other woman's gun. She was careful even in her haste to miss fingers and only hit casing. The ensuing, brilliant flash that blinded her was completely unexpected. With the loud ringing in her ears as well, things were suddenly going very badly. Tobias Hardwick

And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧ A small frown crossed Tobias' face at the glare thrown his way, not particularly enthused at how he seemed to be being blamed for someone else's actions. He had not asked for any of this after all. If things could be his way, he'd still be human and would have never come to the twenty-first century. However, that was not how things had worked out and people seemed intent to come after him as a result.
In all honesty, it made him all a bit confused about why Ms. Smith had even helped him to begin with. She didn't seem able to make up her mind as to whether she wanted to be angry or not with him. Then again, those were probably thoughts for another time. There were more important things to think about at the moment.
As a shot rang out, the brunette was careful to stay hidden. A grimace crossed his face at the sudden ringing and he found himself uncertain as to whether he should stay or go. Making a split-second decision, he ducked behind the filing cabinet as Sarah Jane had said in case things had gotten bad.

Well, now they were in the thick of it weren't they? The only advantage Sarah Jane had that moment was that this was her home, her Attic, and she knew it like the back of her hand. Blind, deaf, she leapt forward, tackling the larger woman. If only by surprise, she managed to drive them both to the floor where they thumped in a tangle down the two stairs in front of the doorway. It was not pleasant, but it was quite effective. Sarah Jane was certain to fling her gun away in the sudden melee. It had already done it's job, and taken it's inevitable toll. Blows were landed on both sides, keeping the ring going in Sarah Jane's ears. By main force, she held on, wildly gripping then at the tough material of the woman's coat. She could see her now, though only in red and blue as her vision came back. Flashes of grit teeth and clenched jaw. Long legs wrapped around her own, but Sarah Jane just kept rolling closer to Mr. Smith whatever Ms.Laser threw at her. Now the woman was on top of her, but Sarah Jane new how close she was to ending this. With a scream and an almighty shove, she tipped the woman over, breaking herself unexpectedly loose. "MR.SMITH!!!" She screamed, though she could only half hear the call in her own ears. Down came that glowing cone of light, bright and fluctuating with hints of rainbow fractals, trapping the agent with the bleeding hand. Sarah Jane was left for the moment laying on the floor and trying to regain her senses, grabbing at sore ribs and working her stiff jaw. She may have also sworn, quite graphically though softly. She hoped the boy was all right. (( This story is continued here fishandchips.jcink.net/index.php?act=ST&f=36&t=49 )) Tobias Hardwick
